Seckinger High School Newsletter
November 21, 2025
Seckinger Families,
As Thanksgiving approaches, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for the incredible Seckinger community. At the heart of everything we do is the Seckinger Standard—our shared commitment to excellence. It’s more than an expectation; it’s the foundation that shapes our culture and drives us forward.
This standard shines through in so many ways: in the dedication of our teachers who create meaningful learning experiences, in the support of our parents and guardians who partner with us to ensure student success, and in the determination of our students who strive for greatness every day.
As we pause to give thanks this season, let’s celebrate the collective effort that makes Seckinger an exceptional place to learn and grow. Together, we are building something truly special.
With the final stretch of the first semester upon us, this is also a great time to check your student’s grades and encourage them to finish strong.
May your Thanksgiving be filled with joy, gratitude, and time well spent with loved ones. Thank you for all you do to uphold the Seckinger Standard in our school and beyond.
With appreciation,
Jimmy Fisher
Principal

Seckinger Achievements and Recognitions
On November 14 and 15 SKG Robotics competed against over 100 teams at the Smoky Mountain Forge VEX Signature Event in Sevierville, TN. With teams from all over North America, it was a tough 2 days of competition. Team 4873S made it into the Round of 16 for the elimination rounds and team 4873K was honored with an award for their sportsmanship, helpfulness, and positive attitudes. This is their first award at a Signature Event in program history!
We enjoyed hosting Mr. Chris Adkins our Principal of the Day this past Monday. The Principal for a Day program is a collaboration between the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce and Gwinnett County Public Schools that gives business leaders the opportunity to shadow a school principal for a day. The program aims to help participants understand the daily responsibilities of a school principal and the challenges and rewards of the role. Mr. Adkins had the opportunity to meet with students and staff, observe lessons and participate in classroom activities.
The EOS Student Convening brought together students nominated for AP courses based on survey data and PSAT AP Potential. Students enjoyed a keynote from Coach Shells and Mr. Fisher, breakout sessions with current AP students, and presentations on AP course offerings at Seckinger High School—all designed to empower and encourage future AP scholars. Congratulations to these students who also received an award for this accomplisment.
Congratulations to Dante Espinosa Sajami!
See the article posted by GCPS here, or read it below:
Dante Espinosa Sajami, a sophomore at Seckinger High School, was selected for the iCivics Youth Fellowship. He is one of 34 high school students across the country, and one of two from Georgia, selected to take part in the yearlong fellowship. iCivics received more than 500 applicants from 46 states and Washington, D.C.
“Being selected as an iCivics Youth Fellow makes me feel happy, and I feel like I've been helping my community,” says Dante. “After learning more about civic engagement and how important it is in my community, I've also started to use the knowledge and spread it in my club, Amnesty. It's really helped me overall in my day-to-day life as I've been getting more civically engaged in my community.”
Now in its seventh year, the iCivics Youth Fellowship focuses on ensuring civic education is accessible and relevant for all students in the United States. The current cohort will run through the 2025–26 school year, and help students develop leadership and communications skills as they collaborate with their peers and learn from experts in the field of civic education. Students will engage in virtual group discussions, workshops, and lectures with experts in the field, and undertake projects designed to strengthen their listening and collaborative skills.
“What makes Dante a special student is his genuine drive to grow and contribute. He doesn’t wait for someone to point him toward an opportunity; he finds the opportunities himself,” adds Amanda Runkel, Seckinger High Civic Engagement and AP Comparative Government teacher. “I’ve watched [Dante] pursue experiences that challenge him, build his skills, and allow him to make a real impact in our community. That kind of initiative—being action-oriented rather than reactive—is what truly sets him apart.”
Founded in 2009 by Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, iCivics is a nonpartisan organization dedicated to advancing civic learning by providing educators and students with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to embrace and engage in civic life together. Over the past seven years, the iCivics Youth Fellowship has helped students from across the country build civic leadership skills and explore ways to make civic education relevant and accessible to all young people.
