A Message from Principal Brickley A Message from Principal Brickley

Dear Coyote Families,

As we embrace the vibrant month of March, I am filled with gratitude for our wonderful school community! 🌸 It’s a time of renewal, growth, and exciting opportunities for our students. Dive into our newsletter to see what’s happening at our school this month!

Spring Break Tips

As we approach Spring Break during the week of March 16th, we want to ensure that this time off is both restful and enriching. Here are some ways to make the most of this rejuvenating break:

  1. Balancing Rest and Academics:
Spring Break is a much-needed pause, though shorter than winter or summer breaks. Enjoy quality time with family and friends, and consider setting aside moments for self-care and academic progress. Remember, a well-rested mind is more productive!

  2. Plan Ahead with Clever:
Our scholars can stay engaged even during the break. Clever, our trusted platform, provides a gateway to a world of web-based learning opportunities. Encourage your child to engage in interactive activities, whether brushing up on math skills through Dreambox or diving into reading on myOn.

  3. Reading Adventures with myOn:
Reading is a superpower! myOn helps promote interest-driven, authentic reading experiences. During Spring Break, we encourage all students to explore captivating books using myOn's vast digital library. Let imaginations soar!

Daylight Savings Reminder

Daylight Savings Time begins on Sunday, March 8th. We will spring ahead by one hour. To ease the transition, try adjusting bedtimes and wake-up times gradually in the days leading up to it.

  • Wednesday, 3/4: Go to bed and wake up 15 minutes earlier than usual.
  • Thursday, 3/5: Adjust by another 15 minutes earlier.
  • Friday and Saturday: Continue this pattern to prepare for the time change!

Sleep and Attendance

School-aged children need 9-12 hours of sleep per night. A set routine can ensure they arrive at school by 8:30 AM well-rested. Here are some example schedules:

  • Bedtime at 8:30 PM, asleep by 9:00 PM, wake-up at 7:00 AM = 10 hours of sleep
  • Bedtime at 10:00 PM, asleep by 10:30 PM, wake-up at 7:00 AM = 8.5 hours of sleep
  • Bedtime at 7:00 PM, asleep by 7:30 PM, wake-up at 7:00 AM = 11.5 hours of sleep

Attendance is crucial. Please make sure your scholar is here - ALL day, every day! The clock is ticking for the 25-26 school year, with only a couple of weeks left until Spring Break and then another few weeks before end-of-year testing begins.

Wishing you a delightful Spring Break filled with sunshine, laughter, and a touch of academic adventure! 🌼 I want to express my heartfelt appreciation for the active involvement of our parents, caregivers, and families. Your support and partnership are invaluable.

With warmest regards,

Principal Brickley

Quick what Inclusion Means Video featuring Special Olympics Athletes:

What does the campaign Spread the Word stand for?

  • People with intellectual disabilities (ID) still face exclusion, social isolation, and social abuse in schools, workplaces, and communities. This prevents us from building truly inclusive societal structures, where we can learn and grow together.
  • To drive change and help create a more inclusive society, Spread the Word to End the Word was founded in 2009 by college students Soeren Palumbo (Notre Dame 2011) and Tim Shriver (Yale2011).
  • The campaign Spread the Word – as part of Special Olympics and supported by Best Buddies and our partners – is aimed at showcasing the impact of inclusive language and actions so that the discrimination of people with intellectual disabilities can come to an end.
  • Spread the Word is led and continuously re-imagined by our youth activists. Their efforts are designed to rally schools, organizations, and communities to commit to the inclusion and acceptance of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

To ensure a successful start to the school day, it is crucial that all students arrive before 8:45 AM. This ensures they are seated in their classroom and ready for instruction, which begins promptly at 8:45 AM. Arriving after 8:45 AM disrupts the teaching and learning already in progress.

If your child is late, you must walk them in and sign them in at the front office. Please do not drop them off and leave, as our front doors are locked and entry is managed through the security doorbell system.

We strongly urge your cooperation in this matter to maintain a productive learning environment for ALL students. Thank you for your understanding and support!

What rewards can students earn?

At Curlew Creek Elementary School, students have the opportunity to earn a variety of fun and meaningful PBIS rewards that motivate positive behavior and help build a strong school community. One exciting reward is a visit to the book vending machine, where students can choose a brand-new book to keep—promoting both literacy and a love of reading. Students may also earn the chance to hula-hoop with the principal, a playful and energetic reward that helps build positive connections with school leaders. For those who enjoy reading time, students can earn a stuffed reading buddy to keep them company during independent reading. Technology lovers may be rewarded with virtual reality headset time, giving them a memorable and immersive learning experience. Students can work toward popsicle breaks. Some students may earn a special tour of the school with the principal, offering a unique behind-the-scenes look at the campus. Others might choose a game of Uno, which provides a fun break and a chance to build relationships. These rewards—ranging from academic to social to just-for-fun—help encourage positive behavior while making school an engaging and joyful place to learn.

Safety Alert - No Student Drop Off Prior to 8:15 AM Safety Alert - No Student Drop Off Prior to 8:15 AM

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map

Per safety legislation. there are to be no students on campus prior to 8:15 AM. This is non-negotiable.

If you arrive prior to 8:15 in car line, the student is to stay in the car with you. If your students walks or rides a bike to school, please adjust your schedule so that your child arrives between 8:15-8:45 AM. The school does not provide supervision for students prior to 8:15 AM.

Club students & Safety Patrols are the only exceptions and will be greeted by their sponsor. We need YOU to adhere to this safety concern. Thank you!

Event Day Protocol Event Day Protocol

Reminder from our CCE Handbook

EVENT DAY PROTOCOL (During the School Day)

  1. On Parent Lunch Days, siblings may accompany a parent or grandparent only if they are in a stroller. For safety reasons, siblings must remain in the stroller and may not run around.
  2. Siblings from another classroom will not be pulled from class to see their brother or sister receive an award.
  3. For outdoor events you must stay for the entire event, as the gates will remain closed until the event concludes.

On special event days, early dismissal for students is not permitted. Our small office staff is unable to manage mass grade level dismissals before the regular dismissal period. We understand that many families have multiple children they may wish to check out early, however, calling into classrooms for students disrupts instruction. Additionally, this process does not provide our office staff with sufficient time to prepare for the regular dismissal routines for car riders, bus riders, and van riders, nor to communicate any changes to the personnel supervising dismissal. Thank you for understanding and cooperation.

National School Breakfast Week, March 2-6 National School Breakfast Week, March 2-6

Did your child have breakfast today?

The School Nutrition Association (SNA) believes in starting the day off right-and that includes a nutritious breakfast for all students. By celebrating National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) every year, we’re encouraging all schools to recognize the importance of a healthy start to the day for fueling a child’s academic success.

Did you know children who eat breakfast are more likely to…

  • Reach higher levels of achievement in reading and math
  • Score higher on standardized tests
  • Have better concentration and memory
  • Be more alert and maintain a healthy weight

But when the school week gets busy, it’s easy for students to rush out the door in the morning without having a nutritious meal. That’s why school breakfast is such a great option! In fact, students who participate in school breakfast tend to have better attendance rates and fewer behavioral problems.

The School Breakfast Program provides 12 million nutritious breakfasts to hungry children across the country every day. These breakfasts tend to be more nutritious than the average breakfast a child gets from home or a convenient fast-food restaurant.
