Yellow Jacket Family News
Volume 4, August 31, 2026
Greetings Yellow Jacket Families!!! 📣
After a fabulous first week of school at Gwynn Park, The House of the Jackets, I am very confident that we will have an amazing school year!
This year, we move forward united in purpose and pride. One School. One Family. One Jacket! The Gwynn Park Community is One Jacket, with one intention to provide a world-class, legendary educational experience in the southernmost city of Prince George’s County.
This week, all students will participate in their 1st Quarter Code of Conduct Assemblies. These assemblies are an important opportunity to ensure that every student understands the expectations of Gwynn Park High School and Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) and the responsibilities that come with being a member of our school community.
Students will review the expectations for maintaining good standing, making positive choices, and avoiding behaviors that may result in disciplinary or out-of-school consequences. We want every student to understand not only the rules, but also the importance of their choices and how those choices impact their success at school.
Students will also review their academic expectations, including the requirements for promotion to the next grade level and the credits and coursework necessary to graduate at the end of the school year. Our goal is to ensure that every student understands where they are academically, what is expected of them, and the actions they can take to remain on track.
At Gwynn Park High School, we believe that clarity creates opportunity. When students understand the expectations, they are better positioned to make informed decisions, take ownership of their success, and thrive.
One School. One Family. One Jacket!
This is our house.
This is our legacy.
This is our moment.
The charge this year is to continue building a legacy of excellence at Gwynn Park High School. My commitment to you remains steadfast: to provide access, create opportunity, and protect you, our team, and the legacy we are building together.

Cell Phone/Mobile Device Request 🤳📲
While mobile phones continue to be useful tools in education, they have also become a harmful distraction for many teenage learners during the school day. We are asking all parents to help by exploring ways of implementing parental controls on student mobile devices during school hours. We also ask that you have regular conversations with your children about responsible usage of mobile devices and social media. We will be having ongoing conversations with the community about this throughout the year to promote a safe and healthy learning environment for all.
Please note that TEACHERS ARE PERMITTED TO HAVE NO CELL PHONE POLICIES IN THEIR CLASSROOMS, and students must adhere to these classroom rules.
