Caragher's Corner
Good Morning Parents/Guardians,
A lot of activity at GBS this week for our students. From the day to day functions of classes and learning opportunities to the special trip to Edmunds Ace and the Harris Center. Learning has continued here at GBS
The play design crew took a special trip down to Edmunds Ace in town to go shopping for set construction. A special thanks to Rick Edmund who help plan out and source materials for the very large mastodon prop at a discounted price! Their support of the GBS programming is greatly appreciated.
CVHS Information Night for our 8th grade GBS parents is this Thursday, 2/15 in the Lucy Hurlin Theater at 5:45 PM.
As always, thanks for partnering with us as we work with your students!
Sincerely,

Special Announcement for 8th grade parents from Mrs. Kidd

From Nurse Bernardi:
Nutrition and physical activity are crucial to a child’s development. Sleep is just as important! The amount and quality of sleep we have can affect our safety, how alert we are, as well as our memories, moods, behavior, and learning abilities. Establishing good sleep patterns can benefit the entire family. Here are some tips to help your child get the sleep their growing bodies need;
- Limit screen time before bed- avoiding all screens for at least an hour before bedtime.
- Getting exercise during the day- This can result in better sleep but avoid too much physical activity close to bedtime. Yoga and stretching can promote restfulness.
- Have a routine which may include relaxing activities such as- reading, writing in a journal, meditation, a warm bath, quiet music.
Practicing a good bedtime routine can promote happy and healthy youth. It can also improve school performance!
Field Trip to ATC at ConVal
On Friday, February 16th, the 8th grade class will take a field trip to ConVal High School for a tour of the Applied Technology Center (ATC). The center introduces students to pathways that lead to high-paying, in-demand careers in areas such as Automotive Technology, Education, Business, Construction, Firefighting, Digital Photography, Manufacturing, and more. Students will also participate in a Career Fair, where they can talk to representatives from fields such as Natural Resources/Agriculture, Health and Human Services, Industrial and Engineering Technology, Business Management, and Arts and Communication. We will leave GBS at 8:15 am and return by 10:45 am. They will travel by bus, and there is no cost for this trip. Permission slips and health forms were handed out to students. Please complete and return them to Laura Gourlay by Friday February 9th. Thank you!
Around the Bobcat World
Hard to believe, but we passed the 100 day mark on the school year this week! Here's a picture of Mr. Cogan's advisory celebrating.
Students have been having a blast with the Cooking Club, and there are still spaces open! So far they have made potato pancakes, gnocchi, chocolate covered strawberries, and baked macaroni & cheese.
7th graders are finishing up our Chemical Reactions unit. What better way than to experiment with glowsticks and the rate of reaction. Ask your students what you can change in an experiment that will cause the rate of reaction to change too.
7th and 8th grade students had a field trip to the Harris Center connected to the science curriculum.
Preparations for the school play continue as a group of students did some shopping for costume and set design.
Consolidation/Reconfiguration
As many of you are aware, the School Board has contracted an organization related to the potential consolidation and reconfiguration of the ConVal School District. Here is the link to the School Board homepage that has more information to share.
