A Note From Principal Keefe
Welcome Back, Moody Families!
Dear Moody Families,
Welcome back to another exciting school year at the Moody Elementary School! I hope everyone had a wonderful summer filled with time to relax, have fun, and make special memories with family and friends.
There is nothing better than seeing our students walk through the doors on the first day of school! The building is once again filled with smiles, laughter, learning, and excitement. Our teachers and staff have worked hard to prepare welcoming classrooms where every child feels safe, supported, and ready to learn.
Our theme this year is “Every School Year Is a New Chapter.” Together, we are beginning a new chapter filled with opportunities for our students to learn, grow, make new friends, and discover all that they can accomplish.
We are especially grateful for the partnership we share with our Moody families. Your involvement, encouragement, and support make a tremendous difference. We look forward to working together throughout the year and celebrating all of the AMAZING things our students will achieve.
As we always say at the Moody School:
AMAZING Things Happen When AMAZING People Work Together!
Here’s to a wonderful new school year!
Warmly,
Roberta M. Keefe
Principal

🤗 Social Work Corner 🤗
Regular attendance in elementary school is essential for building strong learning habits, academic success, and social development. Every day counts—missing even a few days can impact a child’s ability to keep up and stay connected with their classmates. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE COME TO SCHOOL EVERYDAY!
POSITIVE BEHAVIOR!!!!
Here at the Moody we teach not only academic, social, and life skills but how to be a positive member of society. See what your kids are expected to practice everyday with our Behavior Matrix:
Handle With Care
Breakfast and Lunch Program
Breakfast and Lunch is available each day at no cost for ALL students except 1/2 day Preschool students.
Before and After School Program
More information is coming on specific dates and times.
Transportation
Transportation is provided to students in grade K-4 who live greater than .75 miles from school.
If you need to change how your child is getting home you MUST send in a written note.
Health Corner
Medicine cannot be administered in school except with a prescription and written permission from the parent. The medicine must be brought to school by an adult and in the prescription bottle.
Emergency Cards
Emergency cards and school calendars are attached. Please note on the emergency card any special instructions regarding your child, ie: custody circumstances, asthma, allergies, etc. All phone numbers given must be in working order. If you change your number, please update them through our office.
SAFETY REMINDER
At the Moody School, there is nothing more important than the safety of our students, staff, and families. During the course of the school year, it is routine to practice fire drills, evacuations, and options-based response drills. We have a crisis team that reviews safety procedures, updates our crisis plan, and addresses any areas of concern. Earlier this month, I also reviewed procedures with staff relative to building safety, as we do periodically to ensure we are always exercising best practices. Your input with any safety concerns is always welcomed and valued.
In addition to your input, we also continue to ask that all visitors, even families who are regular visitors to the Moody School, follow these guidelines when visiting the school:
Always ring the doorbell at the Fort Hill Avenue entrance door and be prepared to share your name, the purpose for your visit, and what your child’s name is.
Always bring your state-issued identification card or driver’s license with you. We scan every visitor’s ID using the Raptor system.
Never allow another person to follow behind you once you are buzzed through the door. Please DO NOT hold the door open for anyone.
Always make sure the door has closed securely behind you.
Report directly to the Main Office.
IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING!
We cannot underscore this message enough: If you see something of concern, please contact us at school right away.
All exterior doors will continue to remain locked during school hours and we will continue to strictly adhere to our screening protocol for visitors entering the building. Please do not be offended when we ask you via the intercom outside to identify yourself and why you are seeking entrance to the school. As educators and parents ourselves, we know that there is no such thing as being too careful.
Please continue to have conversations with your child at home regarding safety as we will continue to do at the school. We appreciate your continued support and partnership to ensure the safety of all members of the Moody School Community.
As always, please feel free to contact me at 978-937-7606 or rkeefe@lowell.k12.ma.us with any questions, concerns, or recommendations.
Sincerely,
Roberta M. Keefe, Principal
ESL Team Message
Dear Moody School Families,
Welcome to another wonderful school year! We are proud of our diverse school community and the many languages, cultures, and experiences our students bring to our school. If your child is a Multilingual Learner (ML), we are excited to partner with you as they continue their journey learning English. Your support at home makes a big difference. Here are some simple ways you can help your child grow as a learner:
Read Together
Encourage your child to read every day in English and in your home language. Talk about the story, ask questions, and encourage your child to share their ideas.
Celebrate Your Home Language
Your home language is a strength! Continue talking, reading, telling stories, and sharing ideas in your family's language. A strong home language helps support learning English and keeps children connected to their family and culture.
Talk and Learn Together
Everyday activities—cooking, shopping, playing games, taking a walk, or talking about your day—are wonderful opportunities to build vocabulary and language skills. Ask your child questions and encourage them to explain their thinking.
Celebrate Progress
Learning a new language takes time. Celebrate your child's effort, new words, accomplishments, and willingness to try. Remind your child that mistakes are an important part of learning.
Stay Connected with School
Please reach out to your child's teacher with questions, concerns, or celebrations. Attend school events and conferences when you can. We want to work together with you to support your child.
You are an important part of our Moody School community. We value your family's language, culture, and experiences, and we are here to support you and your child. All of the ESL teachers are available through ClassDojo, so please don't hesitate to reach out. We are looking forward to a great year filled with learning, growth, and fun!

Kindergarten – Line Monsters
Our kindergarten artists are learning all about lines with their fun and creative Line Monsters! Students explore different types of lines—straight, curved, zigzag, wavy, and more—to create their own silly monsters. This project helps students practice fine-motor skills while learning that lines can be used to create shapes, details, and expressive artwork. I’m sorry there are no pictures of our kindergarteners! We were just so busy creating, exploring, and learning that I completely forgot to take any!
1st Grade – Dip & Draw Lines
First grade artists are exploring lines and movement through our Dip & Draw activity. Students experiment with different drawing tools and techniques to create a variety of lines. They are learning how lines can be thick, thin, straight, curved, wavy, or zigzag while building confidence in making creative choices and exploring art materials.
2nd Grade – Pattern & Line Owls
Second grade artists are combining line and pattern to create colorful owl artwork! Students use a variety of lines and repeated patterns to decorate their owls, learning how artists use repetition to create visual interest. This project encourages creativity while helping students recognize and use the elements of art: line, shape, color, and pattern.
3rd Grade – Patterned Pumpkins with Neon Oil Pastels
4th Grade – Owl Eyes with Oil Pastels & Watercolors
Third Grade Spotlight
We are off to an amazing start to the school year! We enjoyed an incredible field trip to a museum where we learned more about Native Americans and their rich history and culture. Back in the classroom, we’ve been busy learning and growing—starting our very own Magic Tree House stories and working hard to learn our multiplication facts. It has already been a fun-filled start to a fantastic year!
Dolly Day Fun!
Shout-out to my daughter, Courtney Keefe Romanowsky, a Bailey School teacher, who first shared the idea of celebrating Dolly Day on 9/25 to honor Dolly Parton and the lessons she taught us about kindness, generosity, believing in ourselves, and the importance of literacy!
Our school embraced the idea, as did many others across our district and the nation. We were especially thrilled to have our neighbors and good friends from Rogers Hall join us, and to have Mrs. Katy Barry read to our kindergarten classes dressed as a scarecrow! Thank you to Mrs. Sharon King for coming in to read to Mrs. Haley Chandler’s class! The students were thrilled to meet Mrs. Chandler’s mom and dad, Sharon and Phil King. What a special visit! 📚💙
Thank you to ALL who celebrated with us, dressed in Dolly fashion, read to children, donated books and school supplies, brought a treat, or simply stopped by to join the fun and enjoy the delicious food organized by Mrs. Gen Parasole!
It was a memorable day, and we hope to celebrate Dolly Day each year in her honor. She was an incredible role model whose kindness, generosity, and love of reading will continue to inspire us and the children we teach.
