Dear PRES Community,

What an amazing and productive week we had at Palmer River Elementary School! Our students and staff accomplished so much, and there was excitement throughout the building each day.

We completed almost all of our MCAS testing for the year, and we are incredibly proud of the hard work, perseverance, and positive attitudes our students demonstrated throughout the testing process.

We also ended the week on a high note by participating in the Special Olympics. It was wonderful to see students cheering one another on, celebrating accomplishments, and showing outstanding sportsmanship and school spirit.

In between all of the excitement, students had the opportunity to explore the EarthView traveling globes through CASE at Bridgewater State University. These interactive globes provided engaging learning experiences and helped students better understand geography, Earth science, and global connections.

Additionally, we kicked off our fourth grader Palmer River Project visits with Mrs. Sullivan and members of the Palmer River Watershed Group. Students are participating in authentic scientific investigations by taking water samples and surveying the health of the Palmer River. As part of the project, students are cataloging the number of macroinvertebrates they catch and release to help assess the river ecosystem. This hands-on learning experience has been both educational and exciting for our young scientists.

There is even more fun and learning ahead next week! Please see the important dates and upcoming events below for additional information. Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kristine Kefor, Principal and Mrs. Cassey Monte, Assistant Principal

Nurse's Buzz 🐝 Nurse's Buzz 🐝

📋 Physicals Needed for 4th Graders

This is a quick reminder for families of our 4th-grade students: We are still missing over half of the required physicals needed for your child to transition smoothly into middle school next year.

These physicals are essential to ensure students are healthy and ready for the demands of middle school, including sports. Please submit your child’s physical exam form as soon as possible via email or by dropping it off at the nurse's office.

Managing Seasonal Allergies at School 🌼

Spring is finally here, and while we love seeing the flowers bloom and enjoying the warmer weather, it also means that seasonal allergies may start bothering some of our students. We want to make sure your child feels comfortable and can focus on learning during the school day. Here are a few tips to help manage those pesky allergies and keep the school experience enjoyable for everyone!

🤧 What Are Seasonal Allergies?

Seasonal allergies are caused by the immune system overreacting to pollen from trees, grass, and weeds. Common symptoms include:

  • Sneezing

  • Runny or stuffy nose

  • Itchy, watery eyes

  • Coughing or throat irritation

  • Fatigue from poor sleep

How You Can Help

  1. Speak with your child’s healthcare provider
Ask about safe allergy medications and whether daily use during peak allergy seasons might help.

  2. Update the nurse
If your child takes allergy medication during the school day, please bring in a Medication Authorization Form signed by you and your child’s doctor. We can store and administer medication here in the health office. Medication must be brought in by a parent or guardian, not the student.

  3. FYI- Many antihistamines, like Zyrtec and Claritin, take a few hours to reach peak effectiveness. Giving them at night helps control morning symptoms like sneezing, watery eyes, and coughing

  4. Encourage good hygiene
Remind your child to wash their hands and face after playing outside to remove pollen.

When to Keep Your Child Home

If symptoms are accompanied by fever, persistent cough, or sore throat, it might be more than just allergies. Please monitor symptoms and consult your pediatrician when in doubt. If you have any questions or concerns about seasonal allergies, feel free to contact me.

Wishing you a healthy, happy spring!
Elizabeth Ferreira, RN

Bus Safety Reminder: Toys on the Bus Bus Safety Reminder: Toys on the Bus

We want to make families aware of an important safety concern that has recently come to our attention regarding students bringing and using toys such as Beyblades on the school bus.

While we understand that these items may be fun outside of school, they are not appropriate for use on the bus. In addition to being a safety concern due to their fast movement and potential to cause injury, they have also been contributing to arguments, hurt feelings, and disruptions among students during bus rides.

To help ensure that all students have a safe and positive transportation experience, we ask for your support in reminding your child that toys and similar items should remain at home or in backpacks and are not permitted to be used on the bus.

We appreciate your partnership in helping us maintain a safe and respectful environment for all students, both in school and while traveling to and from school.

Grade 4: Music Selection Grade 4: Music Selection

As Beckwith Middle School begins planning for next school year, they need to know your child’s preference for a music elective. Students in Grades 5, 6, 7, and 8 may choose to participate in Band, Chorus, or General Music.

Please click Here to indicate your child’s preferred elective for the 2026–2027 school year. Please note that students who select Band are required to purchase or rent an instrument.

For scheduling purposes, the selected elective is considered a one-year commitment.
