Movement break in 2/3 Movement break in 2/3

Dear Families,

Welcome back! It’s been so much fun to be back together. I can tell it’s been a bit of a shock for some of us to be getting up early each morning, but everyone seems to have slipped back into the work and play routines with gusto.

Welcome to Emily Pottinger who joined the staff today as a paraprofessional. She is a graduate of MUHS and has recently graduated from Alabama State in Environmental Science. Emily will serve as back-up health designee and work primarily in the 4/5 classroom.

Middlebury College Ed Studies students Alex DeFeo, Jessica Reyes, and Nina Schroeder joined us yesterday and will be in residence through 1/31 as part of a methods class. The first few days they are spending time in each classroom and then will settle in one classroom for the rest of the month.

Capoeira: Next Monday (1/8), we will begin our third Capoeira residency with Professor Fuá. He will be working with us 1/8, 1/10, 1/17, 1/22, 1/29. In classes with Fuá, students will be “physically immersed in the techniques, culture, language, and traditions of Capoeira....a ‘dance-fight’ developed in the slave quarters of North-Eastern Brazil.” This residency has always been deeply satisfying - lots of movement and introspection and growth.

Free Monthly Family Program - We are canceling this series due to low enrollment, but Julie will be revising the program, starting in February, likely with standalone classes so that parents would not have to commit to the whole series. Look for more information in next week’s newsletter.

We NEED lunch volunteers! - Only three days in January are covered! Please email me cjohnston@acsdvt.org if you can volunteer to help with lunch prep and service, 11:00-12:00. Even one day helps. Those of you who have volunteered before, can go into the google doc and sign up. Thank you!

Reminder - School begins at 7:45. Students are considered tardy after 7:55. I will be sending out notices next week for frequent tardiness.

Ice Skating Rink - The lining is in! The fire department filled the rink today! We’ll get the word out when it is good to go. I have located our collection of skates. If anyone would be willing to help get them out of storage and sort them, it would be a great help. I’m not sure if we still have a collection of helmets - need to get into the boxes to see. If you have skates or helmets to donate, please send them in.

Best wishes for the new year.

Christina

Junebug

We wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has kindly donated to Weybridge School through Junebug. We were able to restock our spare clothes which is particularly useful on wet days. If you have gently worn clean children’s clothing that you no longer need you can bring them to Junebug to donate. By mentioning Weybridge School as the recipient of your donation, the credit is then available to the school for the restocking of spare clothing for students.

Thank you so much for your generosity.
