Congratulations to the HTHS Science Olympiad Team
Move over, Milan — HTHS had its own Olympic glory this Valentine's Day! While the world tuned in to watch athletes compete on the world stage, our very own Science Olympiad team showed that the love of science runs deeper than any February holiday. On Saturday, February 14th, the HTHS Science Olympiad Team traveled to Auburn University to compete against 45 other teams at the State Science Olympiad Tournament — and they brought home the hardware.
Out of 46 competing teams, HTHS finished a phenomenal 11th place — proof that our students are podium-worthy in every sense of the word. Just like Olympic medalists who train for years to perfect their craft, Lyla Hatley and Ryan Croom earned the Silver Medal in the Chem Lab Event, while Claire Chen and Kate Belcher claimed the Bronze Medal in the Robot Tour Event. These four competitors stepped onto the science stage and delivered when it counted most.
Most of us spent Valentine's Day with chocolates and flowers — these students spent it with beakers, robots, and a burning passion for science. We couldn't be prouder of our entire team for representing HTHS with such excellence. Here's to our future scientists, engineers, and innovators — keep reaching for the gold!
HTMS Student Honored by the Alabama Association for Gifted Children
Peyton Parker, HTMS 8th Grader, recently won an award from the Alabama Association for Gifted Children's (AAGC) "Gifted Education Month" contest. She wrote an amazing first-person Holocaust narrative to win this year's award. Congratulations to Peyton!
Collaboration in Action
This week, kindergarten and first grade teachers from Magnolia and Cahaba Elementary joined us at Paine for instructional walk-throughs. Teachers had the opportunity to observe engaging math and ELA lessons in action, focusing on best practices in literacy and numeracy and gaining new ideas to bring back to their own classrooms.
The day wrapped up with each teacher identifying one or two concrete strategies to implement right away. We are so proud and thankful to work alongside educators who continually support one another, learn from each other, and stay committed to growing our students to their fullest potential.
Magnolia Math Team Preps for District Math Competition
Magnolia sent off their amazing Math Team and Math Coach, Anna Walker, to the district math competition and came home winners! Graham Brisco, Logan Whitworth, Isaac Slawson, Jack Foshee, Noah Roberts, Jackson Ray, Maliya Crespo, Journey Smith, Max Hamilton, Grayton Whitehurst, Luciana Marino, and Shyra Shakya!
Club Day Highlights from HTMS
Club Day at Hewitt-Trussville Middle School is an exciting time when students come together to explore their interests and try something new. Students can challenge their friends in board and card games, express their talents in the musicals club, or get creative by making friendship bracelets and coloring unique designs. Club Day is a great opportunity for students to connect, have fun, and build new friendships while discovering hobbies they enjoy.
Cahaba second grade students recently finished an impressive animal and habitat research project. Each student used two different sources to gather facts about their animal and its environment. They wrote detailed reports and practiced their literacy skills by organizing what they learned. The school library turned into a learning hub as students shared their findings with their peers and teachers.
The project ended with a presentation for parents. Students showed off creative 3D dioramas representing different habitats and gave oral reports on their chosen animals. We are proud of the effort and focus these young learners displayed during every step of the process. Congratulations to our second graders on their successful research!
Running with Technology at Paine Elementary
Paine Elementary’s Physical Education Department has partnered with the Marathon Kids mileage tracking app to enhance student engagement in an exciting new way. On outdoor days, students scan personal QR codes to log the miles they run, jog, or walk during PE, tracking their progress in real time. Watching their mileage grow has created a noticeable boost in motivation and enthusiasm.
Collectively, students have already surpassed 1,000 miles. This initiative encourages goal-setting, builds endurance, and promotes healthy habits while fostering perseverance and pride in achievement. Paine Elementary looks forward to seeing how far students will go. Way to go, Little Huskies.
Mark your calendars and come watch the Hewitt Trussville Mountain Bike high school and middle school teams defend their state championships! The high school team will be working to win our 7th state championship while our middle school team will be working to win a fourth consecutive state championship! Middle school races on Saturday. High school races on Sunday. Join us at some great outdoor venues around the state. Look for our Hewitt flags and tent. We hope to see you there!
