A Message from Principal Daliposki A Message from Principal Daliposki

Welcome to April!

As we welcome the month of April, it's hard to believe how swiftly the school year is progressing. With the short month and the promise of spring in the air, April brings a burst of energy and excitement to our halls.

We are thrilled to announce an array of events this month, beginning with a Traffic Safety Presentation for all our students. As we prioritize the safety of our students, I am pleased to announce that a Stop sign was installed in front of PS 199's main entrance. Thank you to all the parents who fought for this stop sign—your voices were heard by our local council member, Julie Won.

Our Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) has organized a special NY Mets Night, offering a fantastic chance for our community to come together, enjoy a baseball game, and support our school.

We are also delighted to host an Art residency with Saint Cyr Art for students in grades K-2. This exciting program will inspire creativity and artistic expression among our students, fostering a love for the arts and encouraging them to explore their talents.

Lastly, we will conclude this short but eventful month with a Charter Champion Celebration, honoring our students' outstanding achievements and contributions throughout February and March. It's a moment to celebrate their hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence.

We encourage all families to mark these events on their calendars and join us in making April a memorable and enriching month for our school community. Your participation and support are invaluable as we continue to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment for our students to thrive.

A Message from Chancellor David C. Banks A Message from Chancellor David C. Banks

Dear New Yorkers,

This spring, students in grades 3-8 will take the New York State exams in English Language Arts and math. Fifth and eighth graders will also take their state science exams. We all know that “testing season” brings a wide range of emotions for our students, staff, and families. It can be a stressful time!

But there's another way to think about these exams—as an opportunity for our kids to show what they know. Day after day, they have been working hard at their learning. They have practiced decoding and developed phonemic awareness through NYC Reads. They have built problem-solving skills in math class and experimented in science class. They have tackled real-world issues in Social Studies. They are ready! Last year, our results showed promising growth, and I’m excited to see that trend continue in 2024.

Families and staff, how can you support our students this spring? Here are few ideas:

  • Set them up for success. Ensure students get a good night’s sleep and eat breakfast, either at home or at school, leading up to the tests. Emphasize that this is their time to shine. Give them lots of encouragement before the exams—a post-it note on their desk, a reassuring high-five, or a quick pep talk can go a long way.
  • Remind them what the tests are meant to do, and what they’re not meant to do. These tests provide our schools with critical information about students’ progress and how we can support them, but they’re not the only measure. Grades, classwork, writing samples, and other assignments are just as important.
  • Prepare fifth and eighth graders for computer-based testing. This shift to computer-based testing is a requirement from the State, as the first leg in a three-year transition to online testing statewide. Schools can also choose to administer online tests for other grades. Either way, our students are prepared; all participating grades and schools administered practice tests as part of a statewide simulation in January. Students can also practice on their own if they’d like.

For more information on this year’s exams, check out our student participation guide and the State’s parent resources. And remember, these exams are in service of something greater than a score. They’re an opportunity for students to show what they know and a call to action for us, as adults, to ensure we are guiding our kids toward bright starts and bold futures.

Soaring high,

David C. Banks

Chancellor

2024 School Survey

Hello, Falcon Families.

Would you be surprised to know that less than 50% of our PS 199 families have completed the 2024 NYC School Survey. This important survey gives school leaders a better understanding of what members of their school community think about their school. School leaders uses the feedback from the survey to reflect and improve schools and programs. Survey results are also used to help measure school quality.

If you have NOT completed a survey, you still have time. The deadline for the NYC School Survey is April 5, 2024. You can complete your survey by going to NYCSchoolsurvey.org. Your access code is the letter “f” + your child’s osis (school identification) number. If you do not have that number, you can find it on your child’s report card or on your NYCSA account. You can also call and request it from the school’s main office.

Thank you for your participation.

Resetting Password Resetting Password

Resetting your child's Google password tutorial

Resetting your child’s Google Classroom Email Password.

  • Go to the Department of Education website: schools.nyc.gov
  • Scroll down to the Technology for Families section and click onto STUDENT tab.
  • Click onto the menu option: Resetting your child’s password and then under that will be the instructions to create a pin for the account. You will need your child’s osis number and you can get that from your child’s teacher or even the main office. Ms. Becco can give it to you also, just email her at sbecco@schools.nyc.gov.
  • After changing the password and creating a pin, go back to the homepage and click "teachhub" on the top right side of the toolbar. You may or may not have to sign on again.
  • A remember that the username is everything before the @ symbol in the email address and the password is case sensitive.
  • Once you get into the teachhub, you may not see much, and if that is the case, you should then click on the heading that includes your child’s grade, next to the Welcome.
  • You will then see a host of apps that your child may need access to, for example: Google Classroom, Zoom, Google Meet, Gmail, etc.
