The LMS Express January 30, 2026

Hello all,

It's been another busy couple of weeks at Lebanon Middle School! Indoor recess would not be our first choice, but we are keeping the spirits high with engaging classroom activities and a friendly atmosphere around the building. I met with each grade separately this week to talk about Winter Carnival and upcoming scheduling activity for next year, and I thanked each class for making LMS a place that people come to every day and feel good about how things will go. Our students were (not surprisingly) respectful and attentive during each of the assemblies, and we're all looking forward to Winter Carnival which is only a few short weeks away!

Be Well,

Tom

Attendance Reminders Attendance Reminders

Parent/Guardians are expected to call or email (lmsattendance@sau88.net) the school or report absences through our website before school starts (7:30am) if your student will be absent. If you call when the main office is closed, please leave a message.

A student who is absent for 3 or more consecutive days due to illness will be asked to provide a doctor's note explaining the absence upon re-entry to school. When required doctor's note are not received, the school will count absences as unexcused.

Extended absences are excused when permission is granted by an administrator, and a written request to the main office for a student's work two weeks in advance is required.

Students who are late due to medical or dental appointments or an emergency situation will be given an excused tardy if parents/guardians notify the office. All other reasons for being late are considered unexcused tardies. Unexcused lateness includes oversleeping, missing the bus, alarm clock not sounding, or parents/guardians who drive their child to school.

LHS Counselor Visit and HACTC trips for 8th Grade Students LHS Counselor Visit and HACTC trips for 8th Grade Students

On March 4th, the Lebanon High School counselors will be visiting 8th graders in their Social Studies classes. They will discuss the course registration process, how credits work, and the general school day schedule. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about LHS!

Later in March and in April, the 8th graders will be divided into three groups to visit the Hartford Area Career and Technology Center. They will learn about the 16 different programs, visit classrooms, and meet current students and teachers. Permission slips will go out a few weeks before the trips.

Winter Carnival Information Winter Carnival Information

The annual LMS Winter Carnival is coming up! For those folks that will be experiencing their first LMS Winter Carnival on Friday, February 20th, here's a bit of information...

Winter Carnival is a day of fun activities planned and led by LMS teachers. Students will have the opportunity to indicate their preferences of which activities they participate in, and we work hard to include them in the their "top-choice" activities.

Some students stay on campus, participating in outdoor activities like snowshoeing and snow art, and indoor activities like floor hockey, escape rooms, and making dog toys.

Some students go off campus in mixed groups of 5th through 8th graders. Our off-campus activities for this year are: Skiing/Snowboarding at Storr's Hill, Ice Skating at Campion Rink, and art activities at AVA art gallery. We are always "on the hunt" for more off-campus opportunities, so please pass along any ideas if you have them, and we'll consider them for future Winter Carnival activities.

To end they day, 8th grade students will have the opportunity to participate in 3v3 students vs staff basketball games. The rest of the student body will be in the gym watching the fun, or they can choose quiet activities with other members of their teams.

This document was distributed to students via email this week so they can start thinking about which activities they might like to take part in. Each student will receive paper copies during advisory next week, and advisory groups will place students into their activities.

Teachers and staff put in a lot of time to make this a fun and enjoyable day for everyone. It's always a big hit with the students, and we're looking forward to making memories and strengthening our LMS community!

Student Wellness Assessment Student Wellness Assessment

Lebanon Middle School is currently undergoing our annual student wellness assessment based on the national School Health Index. The School Health Index (SHI): Self-Assessment and Planning Guide was developed by CDC. CDC worked on SHI in partnership with school administrators and staff, school health experts, parents, and national nongovernmental health and education agencies to:

  • Enable schools to identify strengths and weaknesses of health and safety policies and programs.
  • Enable schools to develop an action plan for improving student health, which can be incorporated into the School Improvement Plan.
  • Engage teachers, parents, students, and the community in promoting health-enhancing behaviors and better health.

If you are interested in participating in this assessment process, please reach out to Julie Stockwell at jstockwell@sau88.net or by phone at 603-790-8500 ext 1136.
