I’ve been meeting with all 9th grade students during their English classes to review their high school four year plans and explore postsecondary opportunities. The goal of this work is to build on the conversations that began in middle school about the elective focus programs available at HHS, as well as the many possibilities after graduation. Each student will also meet with me one-on-one to discuss their individual four year plan. Please keep in mind that nothing is set in stone. High school planning is the starting point, not the final decision!

What is an Elective Focus? What is an Elective Focus?

An elective focus is a concentration of at least 3 credits in a related subject area. The purpose is to give students the chance to explore an area of interest more deeply, almost like a “mini-major” in high school. Students can choose from several paths, including:
  • Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs of study (like Health Science, Business, Agriculture, Mechatronics, etc.)

  • Science & Math

  • Humanities (English, social studies, world languages, fine arts)

  • Fine Arts (band, choir, art, theatre, etc.)

  • AP/Dual Enrollment courses

Introducing, MATH LAB!

What is it? Math Lab is an in school tutoring resource for your student. All of our math teachers offer tutoring outside of school hours, however, in school tutoring may work better for their schedule. Math Labs provide tutoring for new concepts, intervention after a failed assessment, targeted practice on required activities before retesting, and opportunities for retesting

What does my student need to bring? Your student needs to come with a specific question or something to work on.

How does my student take advantage of this awesome resource? A teacher can refer a student to math lab or a student can self refer. Students may sign up for in-school help during Study Hall, Learning Lab, PE/Wellness, or FLEX at: https://mustangmathlabs.setmore.com/

Before/After School Tutoring

Students have several opportunities to get extra help through tutoring at HHS. Please note: sometimes tutoring sessions may be canceled, so students should always check Schoology before attending to confirm the schedule. Some teachers ask that students sign up in advance to attend tutoring—please follow their instructions to avoid confusion. Students coming before school must have a hall pass or note from the teacher in order to enter the classroom area before 7:30 a.m.

How Do I... How Do I...

Get help with my student's chromebook, schoology, powerschool, and everything else tech related?

Parents can email Cathy Young catherine.young@gmsdk12.org for assistance with navigating all of the platforms your student will be using this year. Student’s having issues during the school day can stop by the tech office on the first floor of the main building room M12.

Come speak with Mrs. Wells or Mrs. Fisher in the guidance office?

Your student can ask their teacher if they can go speak to someone in guidance or send us an email and we can call them down from class.

Report an absence?

If your student is absent, email hhsattendance@gmsdk12.org. Email the teacher directly if you or your student is concerned about missed assignments. Review attendance procedures here.
