Take Five
Updates for TCSS Faculty & Staff - 10.25.24
1. Help Our Buses Stay Safe on the Road
This week is School Bus Safety Week, a great time to give a special thank you to our TCSS transportation team members, who work to get our students to and from school safely each day.
National data shows the school bus is one of the safest vehicles on the road, but children are more at risk when approaching or leaving a school bus. School Bus Safety Week is a time for everyone to remember the importance of being cautious and paying attention anytime they are on or near a school bus.
Drivers must slow when a bus has YELLOW lights flashing, and drivers must stop when RED lights are flashing and the stop arm is out.
Passing a stopped school bus is illegal in all 50 states and puts lives at risk. The last random survey conducted by our TCSS Transportation Department showed at least 70 illegal passes of our school buses, in just one day.
The image above shows when drivers must stop for a stopped school bus. Please share with your families, to help make everyone aware.
Two-lane road: Vehicles traveling in both directions MUST STOP.
Multi-lane, paved across: Vehicles traveling in both directions MUST STOP.
Divided highway, unpaved or barrier in the middle: Vehicles behind bus MUST STOP. Vehicles traveling in opposite direction PROCEED WITH CAUTION.
