Week 14

We are THANKFUL...
🧡 Community Spotlight: Pilsen Pantry Partnership
We are deeply thankful for our ongoing partnership with the Pilsen Pantry. This incredible organization provides food and clothing to families in need with no questions asked. Many of our Jungman families volunteer and support this pantry, and we are proud to join them through our current school-wide food drive.
If your family could benefit from this resource, please let us know. We will send you the pantry’s shopping list—simply share what your household needs, and we will ensure a curated box is prepared either for home delivery or school pickup.
At Jungman, we take care of one another. 💛

📊 State of the School: Our Focus Areas for Growth
Thank you to all the families who attended our State of the School Address. As shared, while we continue to make strong progress, a few key areas need focused support—particularly for our Diverse Learners and English Language Learners. To strengthen outcomes for these groups and for all students, we are centering our work this year around ELA, Math, and Attendance.
📘 ELA (Reading & Writing Across Content Areas)
Our instructional focus is on helping students read closely and communicate their thinking clearly through writing. Across all subjects, students will practice producing well-organized written responses with strong scaffolds and supports to guide them.
➗ Math (Multi-Step Problem Solving)
Students will work on tackling “chunkier,” multi-step math tasks using specific problem-solving strategies that our teachers have been trained in. This approach will help build deeper reasoning skills and strengthen overall math proficiency.
📅 Attendance (Schoolwide Priority)
Although chronic absenteeism has improved year over year, it remains below the state level. Increasing attendance is essential to student success. We will be partnering closely with families through purposeful attendance meetings, individualized attendance contracts, and regular video check-ins for students of concern. We will also continue with incentives such as monthly 100% attendance celebrations and rewards for the top-attending class in each grade band.
Together, with your partnership, we can ensure every Jungman Eagle continues to grow, thrive, and soar. 🦅💛
Jungman Food Drive – Giving Back to Our Community!
Food Drive: NOW - December 18th
This season, we’re collecting essential items to support our Jungman families who need weekly support to help feed their families and to assist local food pantries in need. Please consider donating:
🛒 Items Needed:
Canned foods • Rice • Pasta • Boxed meals • Cereal • Dried fruit • Powdered milk • Hygiene products (soap, toothpaste, deodorant, etc.) • Clean reusable shopping bags
Our Jungman families will have the opportunity to “shop” first each week for the items they need, and all extra donations will be delivered to local food pantries serving our community.
So yes — send what you can each week from now until Winter Break! Every item makes a difference.
We also need parent volunteers to help sort, organize, and curate boxes for our families, and transport donations to the pantries.
If you can help, please sign up through our SignUpGenius link.
📋 Volunteers must be Level 2 approved.
💛 Thank you for helping ensure every family has food and care items this season!

Volunteer Process
To volunteer at Jungman, you need clearance, EVERY SCHOOL YEAR, from Chicago Public Schools! This requires a few steps!
- Login/Create an account online
- Bring your photo ID to the office or email it to Ms. Jessica at jmoreno83@cps.edu
- WATCH for an email from CPS that has a video you need to watch. When you complete the video, you download and send a copy of the certificate to volunteer@cps.edu
If you don't follow these steps, you will not be approved! This is not a Jungman policy, this is a District Policy!
