Recap: 8/25 PPBC Meeting Recap: 8/25 PPBC Meeting

Last week's Permanent Public Building Committee (PPBC) meeting focused on the probable cost analysis of the seven design options for the project. These preliminary figures were prepared by both the design team and the town's independent estimators. The goal of this round of estimation is to compare the relative cost of the different options, not to determine the project's absolute final cost.

Recordings of past PPBC meetings can be found on the town’s YouTube channel.

FAQ Spotlight FAQ Spotlight

Are the design options for Pollard being narrowed down on September 3rd, before all of the community meetings have been held?

No, they are not being narrowed down at this time. On September 3rd, Needham will submit the Preliminary Design Program (PDP) to the MSBA as part of the Feasibility Study. The PDP will include the seven design options that have been shared with the community over the past months:

  • Code upgrade/repair of Pollard

    • Grades 7/8 only

  • Addition/Renovation of Pollard

    • Grades 7/8 only

    • Grades 6-8

  • New construction at Pollard

    • Grades 7/8 only

    • Grades 6-8

  • New construction at Defazio

    • Grades 7/8 only

    • Grades 6-8

At separate meetings on September 2nd, the School Committee and the School Building Committee/PPBC will vote to approve the PDP. The MSBA requires that the design team continue to study all seven options in the next phase of the Feasibility Study, which will conclude on December 8th when the Preferred Schematic Report (PSR) is voted on.

More information about the MSBA process can be found on the Project Timeline page of the website.
