Superintendent Dr. Scott Wakeley and Revolutionary-ED CEO Dr. Greg Hutchings provided an overview of the Charting A Course strategic planning process at an all-staff meeting.

Dr. Wakeley emphasized that the resulting strategic plan will be created by Homewood-Flossmoor High School stakeholders who have a vested interest in our students, school and community. The process will look at what is going well and what areas we might want to rethink to ensure success for all HF students. Dr. Hutchings has been brought in to help facilitate the process that puts the needs and hopes of our local community at the center.

The Strategic Planning Committee will be tasked with developing a plan that includes the following key elements:

Four Step Process Four Step Process

The process that will span this school year focuses on four key steps, as outlined in this video by our strategic planning facilitator.

4 Steps for Strategic Planning

Assess Stage Assess Stage

We are currently in the Assess stage of the strategic planning process. Dr. Hutchings met with the School Board in July to review the process and set the stage for strategic planning over the next nine months. This week, he met with staff to outline the process as well as the staff-specific data collection tools that will be implemented.

Data collection will include a variety of tools and techniques to provide a comprehensive look at the HF student experience as we chart a course for their future.

Focus groups this week allowed for in-depth conversation with Dr. Hutchings, family and community members, students and staff members to look at what's going well and where there are opportunities for HF to rethink the way we do things. Additional focus group opportunities will be scheduled and all stakeholders will have the chance to take a survey to share their thoughts.

Next Steps Next Steps

In mid-September, the Strategic Planning Committee including a cross-section of students, families, staff, school board members, administrators and community members will meet facilitator Dr. Greg Hutchings who will review the planning process and expectations for committee members, and the work will begin in earnest.
