SB 12

Pertaining to SB 12 and how it affects student care at school. The law uses the terms “health care services” and “health related services” but didn’t define them clearly at first. TEA has since updated its guidance to help schools better understand the difference:

Health-related services = basic first aid (like band-aids or ice packs). Parents are automatically opted in unless they choose to opt out.

Health care services = medical care provided by the nurse or specially trained staff (for example, tube feedings). These always require written parent consent.

Plano ISD has always required written consent for health care services, and we will continue to do so. Even though health-related services don’t require formal consent, Nurse Amber will continue to keep parents informed and make sure official consent is on file whenever needed.

If you’re ever unsure, please feel free to reach out to Nurse Amber with questions!

Thank you

Ready, Set, Read!
We all know how important reading is, and we are teaming up to promote early literacy in Plano ISD! All PreK-2 students are invited to join our first annual district-wide reading challenge! Families are encouraged to track the minutes their child reads at home by submitting the Google Form at www.bit.ly/pisdreads each week. Campuses will compete for prizes provided by the Plano ISD Education Foundation. The contest runs September 29th through October 31st, and the winning campuses will be announced the week of November 3rd. Now - ready, set, read!
