Dear Parents and Carers,

It is hard to believe that we are in week 6 of Term 3 already. The rain seems to be never ending but sunshine and warmer weather is on the horizon thank goodness!

A big thank you to all parent and carers who were able to attend Parent & Teacher interviews. We had a great response with teachers sharing how your child/children are travelling academically and socially at school.

The GVPSSA Zone Athletics Carnival took place last Thursday despite the rainy weather. A big thank you to Mr McIntosh, Miss Baker and Mrs Haque providing our students with the opportunity to engage in athletics at this zone level.

It is that time of the year again when Cartwright Public School is seeking parents to enrol their child/children so that the school can plan for class sizes and staffing for the 2026 school year. If you have not enrolled your child in kindergarten, please do so as a matter of urgency. Parent and Carers can enrol online or in person at our school’s office. Carter Club has also been taking place each week to assist students getting ready for big school next year. Please contact the school if your child needs to be included in this free program.

Just a reminder that Cartwright Public School’s new Pre-school is due to open in 2027. When construction is due to commence parent and carers will be notified. This is an exciting prospect for our school, as it will serve many families in the 2168 post code.

I am happy to relay to the whole school community that Cartwright Public School’s website has had an update. A big thank you to Mr Sudlow and anyone who contributed to its update. The website will be updated regularly for existing and potential parent/carers of the school.

Unfortunately, we have been again unsuccessful in gaining a Crossing Supervisor as again we do not qualify. There were not enough cars counted passing the school or enough students who crossed the road unattended (on their own). The school is encouraged to apply again in 2026.

On a happier note, Mrs Vili and Mrs Khan are due to be slimed on Thursday 28 August at 2:45pm. If you would like to watch this will take place near the COLA. Mr Sudlow will be cheering on the sidelines, as he experienced the cold slime pour over him in the previous week. I won’t be laughing too hard as I am next if we get to our target.

Warm regards,

Elizabeth Harris
Principal

Ruby Ruby

As we move through a busy and exciting term 3, the students in Ruby have settled in wonderfully, embracing every learning opportunity with enthusiasm and curiosity.

In both maths and literacy, hands-on learning activities have sparked a deeper understanding. From interactive problem-solving tasks to engaging reading and writing exercises, students are thriving and developing their skills in dynamic ways.

This term has also been filled with cultural exploration as students have enjoyed learning about a variety of celebrations from around the world, broadening their appreciation for diversity and community and making connections through sharing their own experiences.

Highlights include our much-anticipated Athletics Carnival, where students showcased their sporting talents and team spirit, and the vibrant Book Week festivities, which encouraged a love of reading through themed activities and creative dress-ups. We also enjoyed doing some sand art with our buddies in Lime for NAIDOC week.

We are so proud of how well our students have embraced this term’s rich learning experiences and look forward to more exciting adventures ahead!

Lime Lime

This term has been filled with energy and excitement, with a variety of activities keeping us engaged each week. The students in Lime have applied themselves with dedication across all key learning areas, while also finding plenty of joy in their learning. Last term, they loved creating their art pieces for the CPS Art Show, where they showcased their creativity and enthusiasm. Their artworks, inspired by living things and nature, were truly exceptional.

Alongside their academic achievements, Lime students have also been enjoying weekly gymnastics sessions with Zing Sports. Thursday afternoons have become a real highlight, as they eagerly take part in a range of gymnastics activities with their peers. On Fridays, the fun continues with soccer skills sessions run by an external provider. These sessions have not only been enjoyable but also fantastic for developing the students’ gross motor skills.

2/3 Yellow 2/3 Yellow

It has been a full and fantastic time in 2/3 Yellow from mid-Term 2 to now! In Writing, we have been exploring the ideas of context and perspective, looking at how different people can experience the same idea or moment in different ways. To bring all this learning together, our class will soon be working on writing a historical account of a pivotal moment in own lives. It has been lovely to see them already starting to reflect thoughtfully on their memories, ready to share their stories in personal ways.

Our Maths lessons happen after lunch on most weekdays and run for about 90 minutes. We aim to always begin with 30 minutes of whole number work to build strong understanding, before moving into mathematical concepts, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as measurement with mass.

There has also been plenty happening beyond the classroom! Book Week was a huge hit, with 2-3 Yellow dressing up as their favourite characters and enjoying a fun performance of Bring Stories Alive. Additionally, at the annual CPS Art Show, our class proudly shared their beautiful artworks, each one based on an animal that reflects their unique personality. And of course, every Thursday morning, we have been building our locomotive skills during Gymnastics, practising movement skills like balancing, jumping, climbing, and stretching.

I am incredibly proud of everything 2/3 Yellow has achieved so far and cannot wait to see what the rest of Term 3 brings!

From The Library - Book Week Celebrations From The Library - Book Week Celebrations

Each year across Australia, the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) brings children and books together celebrating CBCA Book week!

Over the past fortnight we have celebrated Australian children's literature by conducting activities and competitions to highlight the importance of reading and encourage a continued love of books and reading.

Book Fair

Thank you to all the students, teachers and families who took time to visit the CPS book fair and purchase books. It was fantastic to see our student’s excitement in purchasing books to share at home with their families. The Scholastic credits that were raised will be used to purchase new books for our school library!

Book Character Parade & Story Quest Performance

On Tuesday we celebrated Book Week 2025 with our annual Book Parade. It was great to see all our favourite characters come to life and the smile on students faces while parading for their family, friends and teachers. A big congratulations to our Book Fair raffle winners, Jacob and Karma who won book vouchers to spend at the CPS Book Fair. In the afternoon CPS classes were entertained by the 2025 Books to Life musical performance ‘General Waste’. It was a great day which was enjoyed by all!
