News from Manchester Memorial Elementary School!

Principal's Note
Dear Memorial Families,
It was so great to see so many happy, smiling faces last night at Open House. It is very clear that we have something special here. Thank you all for being a part of our school family!
MMES will be implementing a new visitor management system next week. We have a number of visitors to MMES each day and we will be transitioning to an electronic tool for visitors to sign in and out. Visitors (parents, repairmen, etc.) will continue to be greeted by Mrs. Schmidt and will be directed to sign in using our Raptor Technologies visitor kiosk. The visitor will be prompted to scan their drivers license or state-issued ID at the kiosk. The kiosk will take a photo of the visitor and will cross reference the National Sex Offender Registry. Once approved for entry, the kiosk will print a visitor badge and Mrs. Schmidt will let the visitor in to the building.
The system will also create an electronic visitor log so that we will know exactly who is in the building at all times while your child is in our care. Visitors will check in at the office when they are leaving and will sign out using their drivers license/ID.
I wanted you to know about this additional layer of security and accountability. Remember to bring your drivers license/ID when you come to visit us! As a reminder, parent visitors are welcome at MMES by appointment (via teacher, Principal, etc.).
As you know, all students in Massachusetts are able to receive free breakfast and lunch at school. A couple of notes:
- If you would like your child to get breakfast in the morning, please have them stop by the cafeteria before heading to class.
- If you would like your child to get breakfast to be used for their snack, please have them stop by the cafeteria before heading to class as well.
- If you do not want your child to access the free breakfast program, please email Paula Graham (GrahamP@mersd.org) and copy your child’s teacher to let them know. The food service program will put a note in their account.
Last call for School Council parent representatives! We have two open slots and two volunteers so far.
Have a great weekend!
Best,
John
Front Office Update
We are very excited to welcome students back to Memorial. Here are a few important notes to get us all off to a good start:
Please look at our calendar below for updated end of year activities.
District Calendar is available on our website - Check out the newly published district calendar for 2024-2025: Calendar
Reminder - No phones or smart watches during school day
CORI requirements - We love having volunteers and mystery readers back in the building. Please note that all adults must have a completed CORI on file before filling volunteer or mystery reader positions and will not be admitted without one. Please plan to come in at least one week before your scheduled volunteer time to complete your paperwork. CORIs are good for 3 years. Please contact the office to see if yours is valid.
Absence, Late Arrival, and Early Dismissal:
Please plan to email your student's teacher, Nurse Morrissey (MorrisseyJ@mersd.org), and the office (schmidtm@mersd.org) with all attendance updates: Absence, Late Arrival, Early dismissal. This will allow us to coordinate with your teachers.
Students who need to be dismissed early, must be released to a parent or guardian from the main office. When possible, please notify the office and your child's teacher ahead of time. When you arrive for early dismissal, your student will be called from the classroom. Please be prepared to show your ID if we are not familiar with you.
