Assistant Principal's Update Assistant Principal's Update

This week's update comes from our fabulous Assistant Principal, Jes Wills.

Jes has been an incredible asset to the U-32 community. We are so fortunate that she chose to call our school home for the past three years. We wish her the very best in her future endeavors.

Thank you, Jes!

----

Dear U-32 Community,

I am writing to share some bittersweet news. After much contemplation and consideration, I have accepted a principal position at Peoples Academy Middle School.

My time here at U-32 has been incredibly rewarding, and I am deeply grateful for the relationships I have built with students and families. Partnering to provide positive experiences for students with you has been rewarding and lifted me to feel confident in my next position.

As I transition into this new career chapter, please know that I leave with a heavy heart and excitement for the opportunities that lie ahead. While I will miss this community dearly, I am confident that our paths will cross again in the future. I will work closely with the admin team to ensure that all ongoing projects and responsibilities are properly handed over.

Best,

Jes

U-32 Spring Craft Fair - Sunday April 7th! U-32 Spring Craft Fair - Sunday April 7th!

Reminder: No School on April 8th (Eclipse Day)! Reminder: No School on April 8th (Eclipse Day)!

On April 8th, Central Vermont will be in the path of the total solar eclipse. Vermont is predicted to have anywhere from 30,000-200,000 additional people entering our state on this day. Local emergency officials have recommended to school districts in the Champlain Valley and Franklin County to close schools because of the significant influx of people, road closures, and strain on emergency services. Our local first responders are now extending these recommendations to the superintendents in Barre, Harwood, Washington Central, and Montpelier Roxbury as well. In addition, our school districts are collectively noting significant staff absentee rates for April 8th.

In light of these factors, Washington Central, along with Barre, Harwood, and Montpelier-Roxbury schools will all be closed for the full day on April 8th. This will be treated as an inclement weather day and will be made up at the end of the school year (as per our normal procedures, the last day of school will be determined by the Board and communicated at a later date once the chance of inclement weather has passed).

If you would like additional information regarding the eclipse and road closure information, it is posted on the Vermont.gov website.

SELECTIVE SERVICE

Did you know it is federal law that all young men need to register with the Selective Service System when they turn 18. Good news - it takes about 2 minutes go to https://www.sss.gov/Registration/Register-Now/Registration-Form

Failure to register can present significant roadblocks to a young man’s future opportunities. This is critically important because registration is linked to numerous federal and state benefits that can help bring funds into communities. These include access to all federal student loans and grants, job training programs, and eligibility for hundreds of thousands of federal jobs, including the U.S. Postal Service, and numerous state, municipal, and federal contractor jobs. Additionally, immigrant men who wish to become citizens will have the process significantly delayed if they don’t register.

Remember to register prior to your 18th birthday!
