Huge Thank You to our Incredible Families

You all are amazing! I appreciate all that our families have done to continue to support our school. Our teachers have received most everything on their wish lists. Students are getting to participate in parent led My Times and the Full Scale Evacuation went off without a hitch! Thank you for that.

Upcoming Events

November 7th and 8th are remote learning days for students. The 7th is a planning day for teachers and the 8th is election day.

November 16th - MVLA will be hosting a Career Fair at the school from 1:00pm - 3:10pm. Employers will have booths set up to allow students to learn about opportunities they have available to them right here in Las Cruces. If you would like to put up your own booth, or know someone who would like to, please contact Mrs. Martinez, Mrs. Binkley or Mrs. Martos.

November 21-25th is our Thanksgiving Break.

AES Rocks

Mrs. Binkley has offered our students so many incredible opportunities. She has helped students organize Community Service Projects such as the food drive for Casa De Peregrinos, obtaining and now painting the Little Library and collecting for one of our local animal shelters.

The AES group has also had the opportunity to have guest speakers and go on a field trip down to Cruces Creatives. Although it is not just for AES, Mrs. Binkley is also working with a local artist to create a mural during one of our upcoming My Times.

MVLA Social Studies Class from a student points of view

Lilah Berkson explains Social Studies:

In social studies, we have been working on our projects for the National History Day Competition. The topic this year is frontiers and we have been watching videos on how to improve our presentations to have them more concise. Other than that we have been learning how to take notes so that we can identify the keywords better when we are reviewing them.

Do you recognize them?

If you recognize any of these, please come in and pick them up. At the end of the semester, I will likely have to donate them. We do not have a place to store them all.

PTO and SAC

Our last PTO meeting was on October 27th. Please be on the lookout for the date of our November meeting as it is TBD.

Below is the schedule for the District Advisory Council Meetings.

Cell Phone Policies (Please continue to remind your student.)

Students are only allowed to use their cell phones before school, at lunch and after school. If you need to speak to your child or get a message to your child during the day, please call the front office at 527-6059 and we will get the message to your student.

If your child does not feel well, please tell them they need to come see the nurse and she will contact you if they need to be picked up. Students should not be calling or texting parents during the day unless it is from the office with an adult present.

Cell phones can be a huge distraction at school and we need your help to address this very real problem.

This year's newsletter

For this year's parent newsletters, my goal will be to have one go out at the beginning of each month. If I need to add information to it during the month, I will do so and send out the same newsletter with the updates.

If I ever leave anything out that you need information about, please feel free to email me at amartos@lcps.net or call me at 575-527-6059.
