Owl Families,
We are incredibly proud of our scholars for completing their State testing — what an accomplishment! This milestone reflects the hard work of our scholars, educators, and families. Great job, everyone!
As we head into the final stretch of the school year, we’ve got some exciting events coming up. Please be sure to read closely for all the important dates and celebrations. We are so grateful for your continued support!
Educator Appreciation Week was truly unforgettable, thanks to our amazing PTC and a surprise visit from the Cleveland Browns! Didn’t catch the Browns visit? Watch the highlight video here!
And a special shoutout to the PTC for organizing our heartwarming “Grateful for our Gals” event — another example of the care and joy they bring to our Riverside community.
Let’s finish strong, Riverside! 💙
With love,
Heather Kama-Starr and Kyle Cohen

FROM NURSE UPPERMAN
As we approach the end of the school year, we have several important health updates and reminders from our school nurse, Ms. Upperman.
Medication Pick-Up:
Please ensure that all medications stored in the nurse's office are picked up by May 29th. Any medications left after this date will be taken to the pharmacy for disposal.
Summer Immunizations:
Summer is an excellent time to ensure your child is up-to-date with their immunizations. If you have any questions about where to get immunizations, please reach out to Nurse Upperman for guidance.
Measles Information:
Keeping our scholars safe is a top priority. Measles is a highly contagious disease, and it's crucial to be informed about its prevention. For more information, please visit this link.
Doctor's Orders:
Remember to take care of any doctor's orders over the summer so that medications can be administered at school in the fall. Summer is a great time to get all necessary documentation in order.
Thank you for your attention to these important matters. We wish you a safe and healthy summer!
SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES
PTC CORNER
- May is Donut Month! Please don't forget to get your dozen and share this far and wide as this fundraiser can take place anywhere in the country! We make 50% of the purchase price for each dozen so please enjoy a sweet treat as you support Riverside! The donuts are $15/dozen and you can create a fundraising page LINKED HERE. This fundraiser will run until the end of this year.
- Family First Nights: Next Family First Night will be at Dave & Buster's in Westlake on Thursday May 15th! We look forward to seeing you there!
TRANSPORTATION REMINDERS
- If you are dropping off or picking up your scholar(s) via the car line you MUST enter the line by driving down Montrose Avenue and turning left to go up along the front side of the school. Please do NOT cut across from Glencliffe to Montrose. Cutting across can back up the buses. It is also unfair to the families who are abiding by the rules and it sets a negative example for our scholars. Everyone's time is valuable and we appreciate your attention to this matter.
- Whenever you are driving near Riverside please be sure to obey all traffic laws. This includes but is not limited to driving within the posted speed limit, only parking in appropriate spots, and following the one-way signs. Please also refrain from blocking our neighbors' driveways and throwing trash out of vehicles. After all, we want to be good neighbors.
- School officially ends each day at 4:05PM. All scholars need to be picked up by 4:15PM. Any parent/guardian picking up their scholar(s) after 4:15PM will need to come into the office to sign them out. If you are running late, please be sure to call and let us know. You can call the main office number at 216-838-6700.
- The Glencliffe side of the building is ONLY for buses and vans. Scholars cannot be dropped off or picked up by families on the Glencliffe side of the building.
- Each day our playground is closed from 3:50PM to 4:15PM. We absolutely love that so many families want to stay after and play. We just ask that you give us this time to ensure every child has been safely dismissed.
- Please note that the playground is also closed in the morning. When the scholars arrive, they need to get right into the morning line.
- As a courtesy to our neighbors, please be mindful of the volume of your music while you are waiting in the car line. Thank you.
ATTENDANCE
- Please call the office (216-838-6700) if your child will not be at school.
- A student is considered Tardy to School if they arrive within 15 minutes after the start of the 1st period for K-8 schools. For Riverside, this is 9:50 AM. During this grace period, students will be marked as Tardy in their attendance record.
- After the 15-minute grace period, the student's arrival will be coded as Excused or Unexcused based on the reason for their late arrival. The appropriate codes include:
- MAP, Personal Illness, Family Illness, etc.: when the late arrival is Excused. Minutes will count toward chronic absenteeism.
- VUX (Verified Unexcused): when the late arrival is Unexcused. Minutes will accumulate toward truancy.
- Scholars will not be released early from school without the office receiving communication and consent from a family member in advance. We also ask that scholars are not picked up between 3:00PM - 4:05PM. This is to support our preparations for dismissal.
SCHOOL MISSION
In partnership with our families and communities, Riverside will develop responsible scholars, who think critically and creatively while becoming lifelong learners who make positive contributions to our diverse society. Riverside is committed to providing student-centered, inclusion-based educational practices that seamlessly incorporate technology, the arts, health, and fitness.
Riverside, we overcome, we evolve, we grow - today, tomorrow, and always!
