A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear PES community,
I hope you all enjoyed a nice week off from the hustle and bustle of the busy school schedule. Students and staff came back on Monday ready to jump back into learning. We were delighted to have some warmer temperatures outside on the playground this week, as the sun finally made an appearance.
🌟 Together We Learn: Thank you to all our community members who joined us for our learning arts and music celebration on the morning of April 18th. We had a wonderful morning of making art and music together. It was such a pleasure to have so many family members take time out of their busy schedules to join us. A huge thank you to the PTA as well for making the snack station work for us in a record time of ten minutes or less for snack making. They ran the station and purchased all of the snack making materials.
🚀 Space Day Presenters: On Tuesday afternoon, aerospace educators came to present to PES classrooms. Dianea Carroll Phillips used her storytelling skills to read There was an Old Lady that Swallowed a Planet to students in grades K-2, and teach students how to make rockets. She was assisted by Sharon Eggelston, who has been a leader in bringing space day to Maine for over twenty years. Brian Ewenson visited grades 3-5, and taught students about aerospace engineering, the logistics of being an astronaut, and shared hands-on replicas of space rockets and jumpsuits.
✔️ Expeditionary Learning Kick Off: Today, we kick off our spring school wide expeditionary learning, which is focused on marine industries that are located in Phippsburg and other Maine coastal communities. Using the guidelines of kinesthetic learning, students will explore learning related to marine industries and climate change, using their five senses. This will be the jumping off point for learning that will end with students presenting their culminating projects to community members on June 13th at 2:00pm.
🙌 Reminders: We are entering an extremely busy time of year. Please make sure you read your school newsletters and check our website for information regarding upcoming events and changes to schedules. Teacher newsletters will also feature important dates and information. Next week is staff appreciation week. Please take time to thank the PES staff for all they do.
Gratefully,
Nina Willette, Principal
