Kelly School students and staff got ready to take the ELA MCAS tests this week, with a little help from 28 CHS Seniors from the National Honor Society. The NHS students visited each 3rd and 4th grade class to share some of their best test-taking tips (because they've taken a lot, very successfully, since third grade!).
Mrs. Loving's 4th graders performed a chant to remind everyone how to Restate the question, Answer in your own words, Cite and Explain evidence, and Summarize your points: R.A.C.E.S!
After that, 3rd and 4th grade teachers competed in some pep rally games to get everyone revved up to show what they know!
Thank you, NHS Seniors, Mx. Kwee, and Dr. Demapan for helping make this possible! We can't wait to welcome you back for the AP Science Expo and the Parade of Graduates!

Classroom Cantatas
Classroom Cantatas is a creative program where students write and perform their own music. Working together, they explore ideas, analyze texts, and express themselves through original songs, building confidence and creativity along the way.
A special thank you to Ms. Wivchar for her hard work, dedication, and passion in bringing this amazing project to life.
Boston University
The Boston University/Chelsea Public Schools Literacy Collaborative celebrated its Sokolowski and Hooks students' literacy growth in sharing their culminating knowledge project with their families and teachers. Through brainstorming their interests to create a knowledge goal and then researching, reading, and writing about their knowledge goal over the course of the year-long program, our students' literacy bloomed! The BU/Chelsea Collaborative is celebrating its third year of partnership in providing our students the opportunity to grow as learners through 1:1 tutoring partnerships with BU Reading Graduate candidates on Mondays throughout the school year.
CHELSEA HIGH SCHOOL UPDATES
Chelsea College and Career Fair
Chelsea High School buzzed with energy today, April 10, as students explored their futures at the Spring College and Career Fair. With over 85 college and career organizations in attendance, the event offered a wide range of opportunities for students to discover pathways beyond high school.
Students from CHS, CVLA, and COA in grades 9–12 filled the gymnasium, eagerly engaging with representatives, asking thoughtful questions, and gathering valuable information. From learning about college majors and programs to exploring hands-on career options, students had the chance to broaden their perspectives and consider new possibilities.
The fair created an exciting and supportive environment where students could take meaningful steps toward their goals. Whether they were just beginning to think about their future or already planning their next move, everyone left with new ideas, inspiration, and a clearer sense of direction.
Exploring Valuable Community Resources
Today, Mr. Mowery’s Postgraduate classroom visited the community garden and teaching kitchen at Green Roots, where students explored valuable community resources and learned about creative ways to grow food in an urban environment. Students had the opportunity to see firsthand how farming can take place in small city spaces and how fresh food connects to their daily lives. Experiences like this help build real-world skills and meaningful community connections. A huge thank you to Green Roots and Oscar for making this incredible opportunity possible!
Pathways Update - Health and Life Sciences Pathway
Students in the Health and Life Science Pathway at Chelsea High School are gaining hands-on experience and real-world insight into the medical field. Every Friday, students attend MedScience, where they build clinical skills and explore authentic healthcare scenarios.
Today’s session focused on a new and exciting skill—learning how to safely insert a needle to administer intravenous (IV) medication. Through guided instruction and practice, students developed a deeper understanding of patient care and the precision required in medical settings.
These experiences are helping students grow their confidence, expand their knowledge, and take meaningful steps toward future careers in healthcare.
Scholarship Event
The CHS school counselors hosted their first of two scholarship events on Wednesday, April 8. Class of 2026 students had the opportunity to receive support applying for available scholarships, including Chelsea-specific opportunities such as the Chelsea Teachers Union and CPS scholarships. The school counselors will host one more event on April 17 from 12:30–2:30 PM.

We extend a warm thank you to our own Nurse Manager Anita Barandao, who generously taught a Basic Life Saving Skills and CPR course to one of our 9th grade students, Mirian. Through her guidance and dedication, Mirian successfully earned certification from the American Heart Association and took an important step toward her goal of being a medical professional.
Nurse Barandao praised Mirian’s commitment, noting, “I really appreciate and admire your determination to learn new skills… Determination is an important characteristic as you finish high school and you pursue advanced education in the medical field.”
Preparing for Their Futures
CVLA students attended the College and Career Fair today at CHS, where they explored a wide range of colleges, career pathways, and opportunities for life after high school. Students engaged thoughtfully in planning for their futures and learning about the steps needed to achieve their post-secondary goals. Special thanks to Ms. Corbaci for her hard work in organizing this valuable experience for all CPS middle and high school students!
