Superintendent Message
Happy March,
Hopefully you are able to have some time off over this spring break, but if not I hope you are able to spend some quality time with your family or doing things you enjoy.
This past week was another highly successful venture for our West Liberty Community School District FFA program. The state ratings came out, and once again our FFA program is the number one program in the state of Iowa! Way to go Zach Morris and Elyse Buysse, and all of our outstanding FFA students!! Also, this past week was FFA districts, with several West Liberty CSD students earning very high marks, and moving on to the state competition April 14-16. Good luck to all of you who advanced to the state level.
Sticking with the theme of talented students, I want to give a shout out to our fine arts department. Last week was very busy with a band concert and the Night of Nites, featuring several of our amazing and talented signers, musicians, improv and show choir students. Congratulations students on a great night of entertainment!
Last, we are waiting to see if several legislative bills move forward. Some of the most impactful bills include: SSA (Supplemental State Aid), the AEA bill, teacher pay, and the school start date for next year. Our school board has approved our school calendar for next year, with the understanding that the start date could be any day of the week of August 19. Currently schools are not allowed to start before August 23rd, but proposed bills will potentially move the school start date to any day of the week when the 23rd falls on a weekday.
Have a great March!
GO COMETS!!

Capital Projects
Athletic Complex
Progress is picking up again at the athletic complex. The track was recently lined and marked, and is ready for our first home track meet on April 2nd! Also, thank you to the city and the electricians for coordinating the installation of our transformer. It was great to see the lights on at the fields. Water was also connected this past week, along with more fine grading occurring on the complex. Once the fine grading is completed, the seeding window will be open, and final seeding can be completed.
Other items: The concession stand and ticket booth are both close to being ready for business. The baseball and softball field dugouts are close to completion as well. Next will be the press boxes for both fields. A big thank you to Matt Daufeldt and Chad Morrison for their much appreciated work on those items. Also, the scoreboards for the baseball and softball fields have arrived and will be installed within a few weeks. As a district, we are continually meeting with Knutson Construction managers on a weekly basis and are looking forward to having this project wrapped up.
Thank you for your patience as the project work is completed. We want this project finished in a timely manner, and we also want to ensure that our students and community have an outstanding, high quality facility for many years to come.
