A Message from Mr. Hedges

Shamrock Families,

A reminder that our eLearning window to make up our cancellation day will run from Dec. 7 - 17th. Our students have been practicing from school and also at home to prepare themselves for this eLearning experience. Each student will receive assignments from the classroom teacher as well as one related arts class. Since this eLearning window is technically a make-up day, if the assignments are not completed during this window, the student will receive an “unexcused absence” for the day that is being made up, November 15th. Here is the breakdown of which related class each student will have based upon the grade level of student:

  • KG-Music

  • 1st-Art

  • 2nd-PE

  • 3rd-Innovation Specialist/Media Center

  • 4th-STEM

Attached to this newsletter, you will find the individual office hours for each teacher (note--office hours does not mean that teachers will be at school; however, they will be available via school phone number and email). If you do not have access to technology at home, the school will also provide time for your child to use a computer lab. Those open lab times are also located on the attached document. If you decide to use the open lab hours DUE TO NO ACCESS OF TECHNOLOGY/INTERNET and/or your child is in KG or 1st grade, we strongly recommend that you attend open lab with your child to help with supervision. Thanks! Also, if you have any technology questions, the Tech Helpline information number is (317-867-8087). If you have any further questions, please reach out to the classroom teacher or myself.

As the weather grows colder, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately including a winter jacket, hats and gloves.

If you plan to join your student for his/her winter party, please make sure you have your Safe Visitor completed.

Kind Regards,

Robb Hedges, Principal - SSES

PAWS TO READ AT WWPL

Paws to Read continues to occur at Westfield Washington Public Library from 10:30am to 11:30am, on the second Saturday of each month, even through the winter holiday season. Paws to Read is a great opportunity for kids to practice reading out loud to a friendly dog, in a non-judging atmosphere. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. To register, parents call the WWPL Children’s desk at 317-896-9391.

PTO Movie Nights

This year we’ve got a lot of fun filled movie nights planned for the students, but we can’t make these events happen without your help! Parent volunteers are needed to help ensure organization and ultimately safety so all our kids have a great night watching a movie with their classmates.

We understand for some of you when you drop your kids off with us its “Date Night” and that is one of the awesome benefits of Movie Nights, but please consider volunteering on those nights when your child’s grade isn’t scheduled to attend. You can even bring your little ones to join in on the fun on the night when you volunteer!

The 2018-19 Movie Night Lineup

Jan 25 (K & 1st Grade) - The Lego Movie

Mar 22 (2nd & 3rd Grade) - My Neighbor Totoro

May 17 (4th Grade) - 4th Grade Picks!

Volunteer shifts are fun, simple and gratifying and the best part is they only last 3 1/5 hour at the most. As an added bonus this year when you volunteer you will receive 2 free movie tickets to the IMAX Theater at the Indiana State Museum to have a Movie Night of your own.

Sign up for a shift or two at http://tinyurl.com/SSESMovieNight

Thank you for your support of your PTO!

Nurse's Notes

We have seen several fevers over the last couple of weeks some with stomach aches or sore throats, others without. If your student is not feeling well, PLEASE keep them home. Our policy is to stay home for temperatures 100 degrees or higher then to remain home until FEVER FREE for 24 hours WITHOUT fever reducing medicines. Even if their temperature is under 100 or they have multiple symptoms of an upper respiratory virus, please err on the side of caution and keep them home to rest and monitor them. Thank you, and have a great weekend!
