Mrs. Michels Weekly Updates
Let's make it a great week!
Weekly Updates and Reminders 2/23-3/6
Hello Hamilton Families!
I hope you had a wonderful winter break and enjoyed watching the Olympics! Team USA was great!! As a hockey fan seeing both our men's and women's hockey teams bring home gold was exciting!
As we close out February we are entering the last quarter of the school year! This is the time to lock in and finish strong. We have shown amazing growth with our two new curriculum resources in both reading and math. I am so excited to see how far our students can go with this growth!
Clothing Give Away-Date Change- now March 10th!
We have a number of items in our lost and found along with quite a few donated items that we would like to give away. On Tuesday March 10th clothing will be available all day from 8:15-3pm. Please come and pick up some clothes before we send them on to a local donation center. If you think your child may have items in the lost and found please come to school before 3/10 to look for any of your child’s lost items. All clothes in the lost and found will be put out for the give away on 3/10.
Please be a role modle and good community member
THANK YOU to those of you who are following the procedures and laws in the parking lot and around the school during arrival and dismissal. I cannot express enough how much I appreciate when I see safe and courteous driving, especially when others are not following the expectations. I know how busy the parking lot is and that everyone has somewhere to be. However, that does not change the fact that we still need to be safe and follow the rules. Getting in an accident or getting a ticket will slow you down even more so please lead by example and follow the arrival and dismissal procedures below.
Students need to enter their assigned door.
When dropping off or picking up if you get out of the driver's seat-you must be in a parking space.
DO NOT let your child out of the car in the middle lane of the parking lot or street.
You may pull up to the curb and let your child out. If there isn't a space to wait for an opening, pull into a parking spot or loop back around until there is a spot at the curb.
There is to be no tobacco, vape or marijuan use on school property which includes the parking lot. This is the law, please be mindful.
Parent Presentation: Internet and Social Media Safety
Please join us on Monday March 2nd at 5pm when we will have federal agents from the Victim Assistance Program from Homeland Security present on the following topics
Topics:
Online Child Exploitation and abuse
Sextortion
AI and Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM)
Most popular apps used by predators
Signs and red flags
Online safety tips
How to effectively communicate with your child about online activity.
This is a parent only presentation. We will have a presentation for our students later this year. I talk to our students regularly about their online activity and many of them have received messages and/or had direct communication with people they have never met before. It is imperative that we know how to keep our children safe when using any social media or web based platform. I hope that you will join us on 3/2!

PBIS Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports
This week we will switch from our current spotlight behavior which is Responsibility- I choose my own actions to Manners. Our PBIS assembly on 2/25 will focus on manners. Some of the manners we will focus on specifically are; saying please and thank you, being patient-not interrupting, saying hello when someone says it to you, holding the door for the person behind you just to name a few. Below are some short videos that you can show at home to reinforce manners. Staff will be looking for students who show manners and will award green points for students showing this spotlight behavior. The student in each class with the highest number of spotlight points gets a free Hamlton t-shirt!
School Cancelation Notifications
If the district has to close school you will be notified via automated phone call first. This will also be posted on our district web site, wwcsd.net and posted on the Dojo school story. There is no need to individually message school staff to ask if there is school. This also a good reason to make sure your accurate/current phone number is on file so the call goes to the correct number. You can also check WDIV news https://www.clickondetroit.com/ for school closures as the district will also post it there. Again, the place to check for school closing are school story on Dojo, WWCSD.net, and WDIV if you don't receive a call.

For students who ride the bus, please make sure they are at the bus stop 10 minutes prior to the assigned time as the routes can run early from time to time. The same is true at the end of the day, please be at the bus stop 10 minutes prior to drop off just incase they are early.
All Young 5's and Kindergarten students must be met by an adult at the bus before they will be let off the bus. If you want your child Y5 or K student to be released to an older sibling or family member you can fill out a form in the office to give to the driver.

Family Resource Center
The Corewell School Based Health Clinic at Adams Middle School is a great resource available to children ages 3 to 21 that live or attend school in Wayne/Westland. They provide medical services including: sports physicals, well child exams, school and childhood vaccines, hearing and vision screenings, sick visits, as well as mental health counseling. The clinic accepts all insurances, but no one is ever turned away for the inability to pay. They also have staff trained to assist families apply for medicaid. They are a great option if your student needs back to school vaccines or sports physicals and can't get into their PCP office, have no insurance, or can't pay a copayment. Appointments are highly recommended. They are open 5 days a week and hours vary. Call 734-728-2423 to schedule an appointment or if you have any questions.
Family Resource Center
Wayne-Westland Community Schools has a Family Resource Center (FRC), which provides services to any student/family enrolled in our District, free of cost. Please contact our Family Resource Center at: 734-419-2709 or FRC@wwcsd.net. Our FRC also has a Digital Request for Services Form, which can be used to request assistance by filling out a simple form.
