COMMUNITY CONSULTATION

At Vogeltown School, we are shaping our strategic plan for the next three years and we would love your input. Your ideas will help us ensure that our tamariki grow as confident learners and connected members of our community.

All we need is a little of your time to answer the following questions:

Vision for learning

Imagine your child is ready to move from Vogeltown School to Intermediate. What is your vision for them as a learner? What knowledge and skills would you like them to leave with?

Personal qualities

Thinking about your child, what qualities or values do you hope they will develop from their time at Vogeltown School?

Belonging and inclusiveness

Belonging and inclusiveness are central to our kura. What do we need to keep doing or start doing so that every child feels valued and connected?

Home - school partnership

We know that strong connections between home and school help children to thrive. What could Vogeltown School do to strengthen our partnership with you and your whānau in your child's learning journey?

You can share your thoughts by clicking on the link below:

You can also visit the senior or junior office to collect a form.

Ngā mihi nui - thank you in advance for your help. Your voice really does make a difference!

NEW PLYMOUTH PRIMARY SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY NEW PLYMOUTH PRIMARY SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY

We couldn't be prouder of the kids who took on the New Plymouth Primary Schools Cross Country event on Monday:

Emily Bush, Harper Coates, Tayla Morrow, Beah Schoeman, Isabella Gatenby, Hannah Froome, Olivia Palliser, Hana Hunt, Arden Hunt, Phoebe Cozens, Mia Vooght, Kahleesi Stubbings, Taya Ransfield, Amelie Francis, Harrison Julian, Miles Cowley, Bodhi Mason, Raqim Rasli, Beau Hikaka, Charlie Taylor, Caleb Dixon, Ruuana Repia, Ben Croker, James Smith, Vega Collins, Reggie Rei, Josh Gillum, Hunter Keat and Rinto Shimada.

They were all very well behaved, and showed some serious resilience and competitiveness. And even though it was an afternoon full of huffing and puffing, they never stopped supporting each other. In our eyes, every child was a champion out there, and we just loved their determination. Well done, team!

VISIT FROM THE TARANAKI KIWI TRUST VISIT FROM THE TARANAKI KIWI TRUST

On Thursday Vogeltown School was lucky enough to have Toby Shanley from Taranaki Kiwi Trust come and talk to us about why kiwi are important to protect. Toby brought a stuffed kiwi that was about 6 months old but had sadly passed away. This was great because we got to experience seeing a kiwi with our own eyes. We learnt that kiwi have short stubby wings that are barely noticeable and a long beak with nostrils at the tip of it. Taranaki Kiwi Trust uses technology to help with the kiwis yearly checkup. They use a special GPS signal to locate the area the kiwi is. This is because the batteries in the monitors only last just over a year and they need to be replaced. We were super lucky to see a dad and his two chicks come out of their nest on a night camera and the noise was deafening. Now Taranaki Kiwi Trust is trying to put the radio signals on a drone so they don't have to travel far distances. They discovered that the kiwis main predators are stoats and ferrets. Kiwis are very defenceless because they don't have big strong wing muscles to help support their chest bone so even humans have to pick them up in a special way since you can't pick them up like a chicken. We found out that kiwi chicks eat their yolk sac when they first hatch out of their egg and live off that for their first week of life. Now you know about why its important to protect them!!!

Our Taranaki Kiwi Trust dress up day raised $322.10! Thank you for your support.

LEARNING CONFERENCES LEARNING CONFERENCES

Many thanks to those who attended our learning conferences. It was wonderful to see so many parents and whānau making the effort to come along.

These meetings give whānau and kaiako the chance to sit down together, share insights, and celebrate the progress and successes of each child. They also provide an opportunity to talk through next learning steps and how we can best support your child both at school and at home.

Our job now is to take the information gathered from this time to strengthen relationships with children and refine the way we deliver learning. If you have anything further you’d like to discuss, you are welcome to contact your child’s classroom teacher to arrange another time.

LEARNING FOCUS FOR OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM LEARNING FOCUS FOR OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM

This year our leadership team has been engaged in professional learning around building effective teams and leading through influence. Nik House, an educational consultant from Leading Learning, has been facilitating this.

Key themes included:

Trust and relationships – Leadership relies on relational trust, respect, and integrity. Taking time to know each other, celebrating strengths, and following through on commitments are crucial.

Stages of team development – Teams move through forming, storming, norming, and performing. Understanding these stages helps leaders guide teams towards collaboration and continuous improvement.

Leading through influence – Leadership is not only about authority. We can inspire change by role-modelling, generating energy, supporting early adopters, and removing barriers so others can succeed.

Situational leadership – Different situations call for different approaches. Leaders need to consider both the skill and will of team members and adjust their support, direction, and expectations accordingly.

Conflict in teams – Healthy conflict can help teams grow, but unmanaged conflict can damage relationships. We explored strategies for addressing task, process, and relationship challenges in constructive ways.

A strong message from this learning is that leadership is not just a role—it’s a behaviour. Anyone can show leadership by influencing others positively and helping create the conditions where our tamariki and staff can thrive.

We farewell Mrs Debbie Wrigley, who is returning to Australia. Debbie’s last day in class is today however she will be onsite next week tidying up documentation. We have greatly appreciated the dedication she has shown, the high expectations she has set, and her passion for writing and PE. We wish her all the very best for the future.

We are pleased to announce that Mrs Dayna Lewis and Mrs Molly Williams will be teaching Room 12 for the final term of this year. Having experienced teachers who already know our school well will ensure a smooth transition at this busy time of year.

Dayna returns to the Paetoki Syndicate following her maternity leave last year, while Molly, who previously taught in our junior school, also returns after maternity leave. We are excited to see the great partnership they will bring to Room 12.
