Fifth Grade Begins Preparations for the Transition to Sixth Grade

The Blue and White Ambassadors at the middle/high school had a busy week helping to prepare the 5th grade students for middle school. Ambassadors went the Elementary Center and worked with students on learning how to unlock and open lockers and did classroom presentations about 6th grade. The 5th grade students then visited the middle/high school on Friday. Fifth grade students enjoyed lunch while the chorus, musical, and band students performed for them. Students met their 6th grade teachers and toured the building. It was a great week!

Sentipal and Suica Sign to Wrestle at Edinboro

Seniors Parker Sentipal and Gaven Suica participated in a signing event to signal their intent to continue their education and wrestling careers at PennWest Edinboro in the fall. If their time as Blue Devils is any indication, Parker and Gaven are sure make their mark in the classroom and on the wrestling mat at the collegiate level!

Combined Band/Chorus Spring Concert

The culminating event of this week's Remake Learning Night at the middle/high school was the combined band/chorus concert. Our students, led by Ms. Elek and Mr. Cugini, did a fabulous job with both their vocals and instrumentals. Our Fine Arts Department is a great source of pride!

Remake Learning Night at Middle/High School

Our Remake Learning Night was a hit, once again. Our teachers and students were busy preparing for the evening for many weeks, in advance of the event, and their hard work was on display for the many visitors who made the time to attend. We appreciate all of the efforts to make this showcase event a success.

In Mrs. Kline's Classroom...

Students in Mrs. Kline's classroom were busy programming the RVR+ programable robots the school district was recently able to purchase with funds obtained through the PA Smart Grant.

Taco Truck Project...

Mr. Foster's students as well as Mrs. Sieg's students were busy this week working on their taco truck project unit.

Boost Bag Program...

Every week, Mrs. Fratini works with a group of students to organize and prepare the packages of non-perishable food necessary to keep the Boost Bag program operating. More than 40 students across the school district benefit from this important program. This program is a joint effort between students who help with the packaging, community volunteers, school district employees, and school board members. The program welcomes monetary donations to support purchasing the food products. If you would like to donate, please reach out to Mrs. Ferencuha at mferencuha@burgettstown.k12.pa.us

In Mr. Grove's Classroom...

Mr. Grove's students prepared for Remake Learning Night by looking back at the the "grit poems" they wrote as 9th grade students so they could create "grit haikus."

In Mrs. Dengel's Room...

With prom right around the corner, Mrs. Dengel took time to work with her students on preparing to look their best. Learning how to tie a necktie was not as difficult as some thought (once they got the hang of it!)

In Mr. Roth's Classroom...

A visit to Mr. Roth's classroom this week found students concentrating on their pottery creations. Every wheel was in use as the students created some remarkable pieces!

In Mr. Beltz's Classroom...

Students in Mr. Beltz's Physics class studied the law of reflection this week. Next up, refraction!

A reminder...

We remind students, employees, parents, guardians, and community members that smoking, the possession or use of alcohol or other drugs, and the possession of weapons on school grounds, including outdoor athletic areas, by any individual, is prohibited. These acts are subject to police action and must also be reported to the Department of Education.

IT IS ILLEGAL TO ENTER A SCHOOL BUS WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION

Student and employee safety is extremely important to us. We are constantly looking for ways to make our schools, school grounds, and property safe for all. Recently, we ordered signage that will be placed on all of our school busses, warning that unauthorized boarding will be subject to criminal prosecution. This is not something new, it is simply something we are creating a greater awareness of.

According to the Pennsylvania Crimes Code:

ยง 5517. Unauthorized school bus entry. (a) Offense defined.--A person who enters a school bus without prior authorization of the driver or a school official with intent to commit a crime or disrupt or interfere with the driver or a person who enters a school bus without prior authorization of the driver or a school official who refuses to disembark after being ordered to do so by the driver commits a misdemeanor of the third degree. (b) Notice.--A school district may place a notice at the entrance of the school bus that warns against unauthorized entry.

Buildings and Grounds Concern Form

Our school district prides itself on providing the best possible learning environment for our students, and school buildings and other facilities that can be a source of pride for the community. We are constantly monitoring the conditions of our schools, athletic complexes and other district-owned property but sometimes we miss things. You can help us by completing this form when you notice something that you think needs our attention. It can be something as basic as noticing that there is a light out in our parking areas, or that the trash receptacles at the baseball field need emptied. Just like you have for your home, we have a running list of items that need our attention. These items get prioritized and acted upon. We may already know about the issue you raise, but if we don't, we can't prioritize it until we do. We are all in this together and your input is greatly appreciated.
