York High School Weekly Memo

Some thoughts for the starting school year

York High School Weekly Memo Some thoughts for the starting school year
York High SchoolWeekly MemoSome thoughts for the starting school year

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are having a great week. Quarter one ends tomorrow. The Student Council is encouraging all students to wear costumes to celebrate the end of the quarter. If students elect to wear a costume to school, they cannot have masks covering their faces, weapons, or any type of blood. We will be having a costume parade during Pride to showcase all of our creativity.

Our Drama Club had its opening night of "POE: A Ghost Story" last night. They also did a sneak peek during Pride yesterday -- it was awesome to see our YHS thespians perform for the whole school. There are still two more opportunities to support our theatrical students. Head to the YCA tonight or tomorrow to catch a spook-tacular show!

We have had such an awesome fall athletic season. Our teams fought hard, and we are so incredibly proud of their participation on the field (and in the gym!). We are excited that we still have four teams in the postseason (football, volleyball, boys' cross country, and girls' cross country). Good luck to our cross country and volleyball teams this weekend as they compete for a state championship.

Enjoy the rest of your week. If you have any questions or need anything, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Thanks,

Amanda

This week, York High School is proud to shine our spotlight on Grace Scapicchio as our Student of the Week. Grace is a remarkable junior who exemplifies academic excellence while maintaining a vibrant presence in the school's performing arts scene. Academically, Grace is thriving, challenging herself with a rigorous course load of honors and Advanced Placement classes. Even with this demanding schedule, she finds the time to be involved in the YHS theater and chorus programs.

YHS's drama teacher, George Hosker-Bouley, praises Grace's dedication to the arts: "Gracie is a talented young woman whose interest in the arts has taken her many places. Not only does she enjoy watching theater, she enjoys performing and has been on the high school stage multiple times. Gracie also plays guitar, and this past summer made her professional singing and guitar playing debut."

Grace Scapicchio truly demonstrates how to successfully balance a demanding academic schedule with a passion for the arts. Congratulations to Grace on being named York High School's Student of the Week!

Parent-Teacher Conferences Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, November 6, and Thursday, November 13, with teachers being available between 2:30-7:00. This time is another way for you to get feedback about your student’s learning, aside from PowerSchool. Log in to our online scheduling platform, PTC Wizard, to schedule conferences. You can begin scheduling today and will be able to schedule until 2:00 the day before.

Key points regarding conferences:

  • Conferences are set for 12 minutes each.

  • Students are expected to attend with parents, as they are critical participants in their learning.

  • Conferences will be held in person. If you need an alternative accommodation, please reach out directly to the teacher.

I strongly encourage you to reach out to school personnel anytime, not just at conferences. Staff are always available by email, and would be happy to talk via phone call or meet in person at a mutually agreed-upon time as well.

If you have any questions regarding PTC Wizard or signing up for conferences, please reach out to Stephanie DeMartini -- sdemartini@yorkschools.org

College Rep Visits

College rep visits are starting up, and they'll be held in person or virtually this year. These visits are a great chance to talk with college representatives about their campuses and what they offer. Sometimes, the reps you meet with are the same admission counselors who will be reviewing your application!

There are many colleges and universities visiting, so be sure to check out all the available slots in Naviance. For virtual visits, it's important to be in a quiet space so you can have a clear conversation.

Juniors and seniors can sign up and reserve their spot through Naviance by clicking on the "What's new" window on your Naviance home page. If you need a quiet place to participate, please let Student Services know ahead of time. If you have any questions, please reach out to us in Student Services.
