Trail Blazer Bulletin Feb 2-6

Dear Trail Blazer Community
I hope that you and your families were able to stay safe and warm through this winter storm. As a result of last week’s weather, several athletic contests and campus events have been rescheduled. We appreciate everyone’s flexibility and understanding as our students, staff, and coaches adjust and move forward. Thank you for always supporting our Trail Blazers.
Here on the Trail, we continue mourning the loss of Anthony Lopez, a sophomore and dedicated trumpet player in our award-winning band. Anthony was a valued member of the LT family, and his passing creates a profound void, particularly for our band students and staff. We are committed to supporting our students through this difficult time. We have mobilized our full district and campus counseling teams to provide grief support and guidance to anyone who needs it. Please do not hesitate to reach out if your child needs assistance.
February is Black History Month! Join us as we honor and celebrate the achievements, history and contributions of Black Americans and members of the African diaspora, both past and present!
Happy School Counselor Week
They hold schedules and stories. Transcripts and tears.
Credits, calendars, worries, and hopes—often all before lunch.
Our counselors care for the whole student. They guide academic paths with precision and steady hands, while also tending to the quiet, unseen work of the heart. They listen when answers aren’t easy, advocate when voices feel small, and help students find their footing when the ground feels unsteady.
Some days, their work looks like planning for the future. Other days, it looks like helping a student get through the present. Most days, it’s both.
During National School Counseling Week, we pause to say thank you—to Dr. Austin, Mrs. Bennett, Ms. Michell, Mrs. Waide, Mrs. McElhinney, and Mrs. Wilson—for the compassion, expertise, and calm they bring to LT every single day. Our students are stronger, steadier, and more confident because of you.

Student Spotlight
Mock Trial Success!
While much of the city was still wrapped in blankets, our students were already up, dressed, and headed for the courthouse—focused, prepared, and ready. After weeks of preparation, much of it carved out during weather disruptions, they walked in with confidence and purpose. And they delivered.
In what is arguably the most competitive Mock Trial circuit in the country, 36 teams competed. Only 16 advanced to elimination rounds. Four will move on to the state competition—and our students put themselves firmly in that conversation. What you see here is more than a result. It’s resilience, discipline, and the quiet confidence that comes from doing the work when it’s hard.
We’re proud of how they represented LT.
The Swim & Dive Team competed at their district championship last week. Seniors participated in a special senior recognition ceremony before the meet where they were recognized for their hard work over the last 4 years. The team had some great swims and times! LTHS had 3 boys in the 500 Freestyle event place top 8! Andrew DuBos (6th), Skanda Kiran (7th), Aditya Sathe (8th)
The following athletes will continue on their season as they prepare for their Regional Swim Meet on February 6 & 7, 2026.

Congratulations to all LT wrestlers who participated in the UIL District Wrestling Competition. Special congratulations to our Girls Wrestling Team for their second place finish! Additional congratulations to the following individuals who have punched their tickets to the Regional Competition: Misha, Priscilla, Alannah, Mariua, Keshawna, Eden, Sanjana, Anne, Bella and JJ.

Congratulations to LT Colorguard. Their Winter Guard team kicked off their competitive season with an impressive showing at the NTCA contest in Little Elm this past Saturday. It was a high-energy debut for the performers, marking a successful start to the year. The Varsity team led the charge, securing a first-place finish in their division. The momentum continues quickly as the program prepares for its next event, where the JV Team will compete at Naaman Forest HS.

You can almost see it in their smiles - pride, anticipation and the first moment that it sinks in and becomes real- senior year is here. Here on the Trail, we are so proud of how far they have come and even more excited for where they are headed next! The future is calling, and the LT class of 2026 is ready to answer.

EOY Vacation Scheduling
Every instructional day counts. Unlike in recent years, student grades and assessments will now be collected through the very last week of school. The final instructional day of the 2025-2026 school year is on May 22, 2026. We know that families often plan trips in advance, but please avoid scheduling family travel before that date, as absences can affect learning and final grades.
You can review the 2025-2026 academic calendar here. Thank you for helping your student finish the year strong!
Staff Shout Outs
We encourage you to use this form to nominate a teacher or staff member who you believe deserves special recognition for their contributions. I look forward to sharing your “Staff Shout Outs” with the LT staff.
