7th Grade: American Life in the pre-Civil War Era

Our students wrapped up learning about American life and progress both domestically and internationally during the early to mid-1800's..

We learned about the importance of newspapers as the most important medium of the time and students had the opportunity to create and write their own newsletter based on that time frame. Students created the name of their newspaper and created a catchy headline. They then had to write about the topic using Ethos, Pathos, Logos, which we revisited since we last used it for our Soap Box project. After Spring Break we are kicking off Unit 5 and we will be creating dioramas of Civil War battles while writing about key event(s).

8th Grade: Great Depression and the New Deal

In 8th grade social studies, our students are studying the causes and effects of the Great Depression, including why the stock market failed and how that affected average Americans. Students are then comparing the responses of Presidents Hoover and Roosevelt and how their messaging and actions affected their public perception.
