Weekly Update October 2, 2024

The average age of Indian Prairie’s schools is now over 30 years old. Like any house or property, the facilities are at an age where they are in need of reinvestment. Many building systems including roofs, boilers, HVAC, and electrical systems are original and past their expected useful lives. The November 2024 bond referendum includes funding to address current and anticipated infrastructure needs at all district facilities. It will address these needs without impacting current operating funds, ensuring the district can upgrade facilities without impacting classroom instruction. Additionally, reinvesting in district facilities will lower energy costs, and reduce repairs and maintenance expenses. These savings will create additional funding for continued operations and educational needs.

The following brief video provides an overview of our facility needs and some of the necessary improvements. Improvements would begin starting in the Summer of 2025.

Town Hall Meetings Town Hall Meetings

Indian Prairie School District 204 is holding a series of town hall meetings related to a no tax increase referendum being placed on the November 2024 ballot. Attendees will gain a better understanding of the district’s facility infrastructure needs, critical safety and security upgrades, and how a referendum would support these needs. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session and tours of the building.

Safety Reminder Safety Reminder

As we continue the school year, we want to remind families about the importance of school bus safety. Please ensure your child arrives at the bus stop at least 5 minutes early and waits in a safe spot, away from the road. Remind them to use caution when boarding or exiting the bus and to always wait for the driver’s signal before crossing the street. Additionally, remind your child to remain seated while the bus is moving and to follow the driver’s instructions.

We also ask parents and guardians to support bus safety by obeying traffic laws when driving near buses. Remember, it is illegal to pass a school bus when its red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended. Stopping keeps our students safe as they get on and off the bus. View the Bus Safety Informational Flyer here.
