Principal Notes

Dear CMS Families,

This past week we had a blast hosting our future 6th grade Colts! Our current students did an amazing job teaching our 5th graders about AVID, Band, Choir, Theatre, and Art!

As we move into the Spring Semester please partner with our staff to ensure your child finishes the year strong by:

  • Being in dresscode (including their Student ID)
  • Bringing a charged laptop daily
  • Avoiding horseplay & physical contact with peers
  • Being an active participant in class
  • Not being disruptive in class

Thank you for your support!

GO COLTS!

-Dr. Calvert

District News

Parent Engagement Survey

Principals - The 2025-2026 Parent Engagement Survey was distributed on Monday, February 2. Within the first day, we received just over 600 responses. As a reminder, last year we received 2,403 responses and the goal this year is to increase that participation. Please promote and encourage your families to take the survey. Below is information to put in your newsletters. Thank you! Submitted by Nicole Lyons

GCISD Parent Engagement Survey Open Through February 10

As part of GCISD’s commitment to continuous improvement, GCISD is conducting its second annual Parent Engagement Survey to seek parent insights that will guide our campus and department efforts in goal-setting and strategic planning. This survey aligns with our Balanced Scorecard performance objective of parents and families satisfaction and engagement. The survey should take no more than 5-10 minutes to complete.

The survey invite link for each individual student was sent to the primary contact on file in Skyward on Monday, February 2. If you don’t see the survey email in your inbox and you are the primary contact on file, please check your spam or junk folders. If it’s still missing, feel free to contact us at info@gcisd.net, and we’ll ensure it reaches you.

If another parent or guardian besides the primary contact on file would also like to complete the survey independently, please email info@gcisd.net with their full name and the name(s) of your GCISD student(s). The survey is available in English and Spanish.

We value your feedback and appreciate the time you’ll take to help us grow. Your insights play an essential role in building a brighter future for all of our students, and we are grateful for your partnership.

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us at info@gcisd.net.

Thank you for helping us shape the future of GCISD!

A Note from the Nurse

6th GRADE PARENTS: Texas law requires that any student attending public school must meet minimum immunization requirements to continue enrollment. Although the federal immunization recommendations have changed, Texas has not adopted the new vaccine schedule. All 7th graders are required to have Meningococcal (MCV) and TDaP vaccines before beginning school in the fall. These will be the last vaccines your student will be required to have for public education. If your student has had the MCV and TDaP, routinely given at the 11 year check up, please email me a copy so that I can update our records. If you choose to not vaccinate, the state does have a waiver that you can complete and submit. Waivers are good for 2 years and will have to be renewed in high school. Links to immunization requirements and waiver information can be found below.

You can email records to candace.sibley@gcisd.net
