✨ Wishing You a Joyful Winter Break! ✨

With Winter Break right around the corner, we want to take a moment to wish all of our incredible students a joyful holiday season.

You have accomplished so much throughout 2025, and now it’s time to recharge with family and friends. While your teachers (and your laptops!) will be waiting for your return in 2026, we hope you take this time to fully unplug and relax.

I am so excited for everything the new year holds, and I look forward to seeing you all back in a couple of weeks!

Preventing the Spread of Illness

With illnesses on the rise, it’s important to practice healthy measures in order to prevent the spread of sickness. Please stay home if you are unwell or unable to be learning effectively in school. If your child has a fever above 100.4, they need to stay home for 24 hours or until fever-free without fever-reducing medication. If they need to be home for an extended period of time please provide our attendance office with a medical note to excuse the absence(s). Also, please have the student or adult at home reach out to the teachers for missed work.
Have a safe and healthy winter break!

A poem from the health office:
Illnesses are on the rise, bacterial, viral and otherwise.

Germs can be stealthy, please wash your hands to ensure you stay healthy.
Cold vs Flu, which one are you?
Stay home if you’re sick, to get better quick.

As the first semester winds down and the holiday season begins, we wish you and your family a restful and rejuvenating winter break. Middle school is a time of intense growth, and this break is a great time for students to recharge, disconnect from academic pressure and strengthen family connections.

As your middle-schooler navigates their growing independence, communication can sometimes be tricky! Skip the one-word answers and try these targeted conversation starters to encourage fun connections during their time off.

  • What is one thing you are proud of accomplishing this year in or out of school?

  • If you could teach your best friend one new skill, what would it be?

  • What’s a mistake you learned from this semester?

  • If we could take a no-phones-allowed day trip anywhere within an hour of home, where would you want to go?

  • If you were the school principal for a week, what's the first rule you would change and why?

  • What is your favorite of our family traditions? What is a fun, easy one you would like to start?

Wishing your family a safe and fun break!

During 7th grade BARR I-Time last week students participated in the lesson, Personality Portrait. Students explored and identified personal values, assets, and strengths that help shape who they are as individuals. Students then created word art to capture all the great qualities.

SMS Orchestra Spreading Holiday Cheer!

Some of Ms. Mattson's orchestra classes did some caroling through SMS!

Last Thursday, the Spartan Stars and Chamber Orchestra performed a short concert for friends and family to raise money for Second Harvest Food Bank. Bravo to the students for celebrating the holiday season with music and the spirit of giving, and thank you to all who donated!

We're looking to make our middle school lunch periods even more engaging and fun for our students, and we need your help! The College of St. Scholastica OT students have been working with us to find ways to make our lunches more engaging and fun for the students. We have created a game cart and are in need of more supplies.

We're collecting gently used games for our students to play during their lunch breaks. Games are a great way for them to socialize and have some fun with friends.

Do you have any of the following lying around that you don't use anymore?

Card Games? (Uno, Phase 10, Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza, etc)

Board Games? (Chess, Checkers, Connect Four, Scrabble, etc)

Small group games (Tenzi, Dominos, Yahtzee, extra dice)

We kindly ask that all donations are complete and in gently used condition.

How to Donate:

Games can be dropped off in the main office.

Thank you for helping us enrich our students' lunchtime experience! Your generosity will bring a lot of joy and connection to our campus.
