Third Grade Newsletter
November 2, 2026
Students will take the Unit 3 assessment tomorrow! Yellow math folders will come home tonight to be reviewed & emptied.
Skills included on the assessment:
- Measuring the the inch, half inch, and quarter inch
- Measuring to the centimeter and millimeter
- Calculating perimeter and area
- Understanding the difference between perimeter and area
- Customary and metric conversions of length (using tables to scaffold multiplication)
- Circumference and diameter (understanding terms)
- Understanding appropriate units of measurement in given situations
The remainder of the week will be spent beginning the long-awaited Unit 4 of Everyday Mathematics - Multiplication & Division! There will be more information to come on practicing multiplication facts next week!
Spelling: spellings of /er/ & r-controlled vowels review
Comprehension Skill: problem-and-solution text structure
Read Aloud: Bunnicula (mystery)
Grammar: compound subjects and predicates
Writing: brainstorming Thanksgiving writing project
This week we will continue our geography unit by discussing how maps & globes are geographic tools that can give us information. We will learn about the lines of longitude and latitude and how they help us determine absolute location.
