Principal's Corner with Kyle McFall

Throughout the month of October, students began demonstrating moments of leadership. Several students took it upon themselves to show pride in their school and decorate it for Halloween. Other students seized the opportunity to participate in a Native Youth Leadership forum held on a Saturday and gain valuable experience in cultural and community leadership. Finally, other students engaged their peers in a discussion based upon respect at a Morning Meeting. These actions are indicative of student initiative and a desire to take ownership in their school and education.

We also had some fun this past month. Students enjoyed a nice day outside by going on a walk and playing kickball at a local park. We also had a pumpkin carving competition. We had several awesome entries as the students really took a lot of pride in their carving skills. Finally, we ended the month with competitive games in PE on Halloween. Students participated in several Halloween themed relays, demonstrating team work and communication skills. All-in-all, it was another great month at Kenai Alternative High School!

Parent-Teacher Conferences

The Kenai Alternative staff spent valuable collaborative time with both students and parents/guardians who came in for conferences. This was an excellent opportunity to both celebrate student achievements and discuss challenges and possible solutions for individual students. We appreciate everyone who took the time to come in and meet with us. We look forward to continuing to work with your students and helping them reach their academic and personal goals.
Kenai Alternative Senior, Tayler Lee

Student Spotlight - Tayler Lee

Tayler Lee is a senior at Kenai Alternative High School who is getting close to completing all 22 credits and moving on to the next phase of his life. He took an opportunity to reflect on his time at Kenai Alternative and share his experience with others.

Q. How was your experience at Kenai Alternative?

Tayler: "Kenai Alternative was very helpful. The academic point of views of both students and teachers is very helpful. I spent more time learning and growing as a person here than anywhere else."

Q. What advice would you give to incoming students?

Tayler: "If you put your mind to it, you can do it. Be prepared to work. The day goes fast and each class is worth half a credit, so you have to be ready to work. The teachers are here to support you. Talk to them...they will help you."

Q. What are your future goals?

Tayler: "I want to own my own business...something where I can use my creativity."

Q. Do you have any parting words for your classmates and/or teachers?

Tayler: "Come here with a growth mindset. KALT wants to help you academically but also prepare you for life beyond school. Embrace it."

We are proud of Tay for all that he has accomplished and look forward to seeing what he does in his future!
