Loins Club Scholar of the Month: January 2025
Sam Wright
Oak Glen High School's Lions Club Scholar for January 2025 is Sam Wright. Sam is the son of Steve and Heide Wright. Sam resides in Chester, WV with his parents, brother Matthew and sister Gracie.
Sam is a member of the Class of 2025 at Oak Glen High School. His school organizations include; Key Club, Junior Prom Court recipient, a Golden Horseshoe winner and an inductee of the National Honor Society.
As a Sophomore, Sam was a graduate of the Weirton Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership Program. In his junior year, he began attending the John D. Rockefeller Career Center for Welding. In the fall semester this year Sam received the Student Employee of the Quarter for his skills and leadership in welding. The skills developed while completing the JDRCC Welding program will provide applicable skills towards Sam's future endeavors.
Beyond educational achievements, Sam has committed to high school sports. As a freshman, he joined the track team. For four years he played football and has been a three-year letterman. In his senior season, Sam was named a captain. Each year, Sam has been recognized for his hustle, improvement and leadership. Sam was honored to receive the Oak Glen’s Touchdown Club’s Dennis Huff Award, which honors a leader amongst his team.
Sam is active in varying community activities. Sam is a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church youth group, he is a member of Wyandot Archery and has been a competitor with the Full Boar Racing motocross team. Most days, you can find Sam performing some type of mechanical labor; he has a true passion to work outdoors and he enjoys working on heavy machinery. He has developed many self-taught industrialized tasks that have resulted in being a resource to many family and friends.
Sam's High School years and involvements has leant an access to many community opportunities. He has volunteered locally with the Lion's Club, American Legion, neighborhood beautification, food pantries. He had aided youth and the elderly, and so much more, all of which has been a privilege and valuable experience.
Upon graduation, Sam plans to attend West Virginia University where he has been accepted into the Landscape Architecture department. He ultimately wants to become more marketable while leading his own business in Land Management.

The World According to Mister Rogers "Important Things to Remember"
"One of the mysteries is that as unlike as we are, one human being from another, we also share much in common. Our lives begin the same way, by birth. The love and interdependence of parents and children is universal, and so are the many difficulties parents and children have in becoming separate from one another. As we grow, we laugh and cry at many of the same things, and fear many of the same things. At the end, we all leave the same way - by death. Yet no two threads - no two lives - in that vast tapestry of existence have ever been, or ever will be, the same."
