Mr. Castillo
Director interino

Dear James John Families,
Thank you to all the families that came out to our PTA meeting Thursday night and shared their concerns and support with me. The events of Tuesday’s lockdown were stressful and trauma inducing for all of us, it was cathartic and healing having the opportunity to share with the wider community the events of that day and to share next steps we are thinking about to improve our school grounds.
This week saw our first Pajama Day and Student of the Month Celebration - many smiles to go around. Along with students earning and receiving their Student of the Month recognition, students also work collectively to earn a Classroom Pride Award weekly. Meaning, classrooms that work collectively and have been demonstrating what being safe, respectful, responsible and kind - looks, sounds and feels like earns a visit from James or John our school twin stuffy mascots. It is always wonderful to see the joy and high-fives students share with each other when they have earned a Classroom Pride Award. This weeks Classroom Pride Winners were Ms. O'Boyle's 2nd grade students and Mr. Musgnung’s 5th grade students. Awesome!
Before I sign off for the weekend - Don’t forget, if your child is attending Sun School, their first day will be this coming Monday, October 2nd.
Well…the air is getting crisp and the days are getting cooler. I believe Mother Nature will be bringing back the sun for the weekend, so get out and enjoy the weather. We will see all of you next week and of course have a restful weekend.
With much Appreciation,
Mr. Castillo

At James John Elementary, our staff is committed to taking a collective responsibility to educate the whole student to achieve their highest academic and social potential. We are committed to providing inclusive spaces that nurture strong relationships with school staff and peers to allow students to be themselves.
We will achieve our purpose by sharpening our reflective practices and develop our language around identity and culture to ensure students feel welcomed. We will examine our data driven instruction, curriculum and assessments to be aligned with what our students need to meet district and state standards - our student’s demographics will no longer be predictors of academic achievement. We are building the stepping stones for future leaders who will have the confidence to be innovators for a better future for all.
