Rocky Point Weekly Update
January 12th-16th
Hello Rocky Point Families
We hope that everyone had a wonderful week as we returned for the start of our second semester. We are extremely proud of all the growth we are seeing as we are beginning to dive into the results of our middle of year assessments that took place this past week. We have been able to complete middle of year mClass and StarMath assessments for all students that were present at school this past week, which we greatly appreciate in order for us to return to high quality, targeted instruction this week.
We are looking forward to a great first week of the second semester!

Rescheduled Winter Concerts and Book Fair
We are happy to share that we have rescheduled our winter concert and our book fair for January that were postponed in December due to high numbers of illnesses.
Our Kindergarten, First and Second Grade winter concert will take place on Thursday, January 22nd at 5:30pm. Our Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade winter concert will take place on Tuesday, January 27th at 5:30pm. Students are asked to dress to impress for these concerts.
Our book fair will be open from Wednesday, January 21st - Tuesday, January 27th. On evenings of the concerts, the book fair will remain open until 7:00pm. As was initially planned in December, our PTO will be selling refreshments at these concerts. We are looking forward to great evenings with our families!
Reassignment Application Request for 2026-2027
In an effort to accommodate the educational preferences of families in the Pender County School District, officials have opened the reassignment request period for the upcoming 2026-2027 academic year. Parents who wish to enroll their students in a Pender County school outside of their designated zone, with the exception of Pender Early College and Pender Innovative Learning Academy, are encouraged to participate in the application process.
Due to schools in the Topsail and Surf City school districts being over capacity, no new applications will be accepted. Applications are being accepted now, allowing parents time to consider alternative educational options for their children. The deadline for submitting reassignment requests is February 28, 2026. Notification letters will go home on May 1st.

Martin Luther King Jr Holiday - Monday, January 19
Please be reminded that there is no school for students or staff next Monday, January 19, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr holiday.
Ronald McDonald Pop Tab Challenge Continues.
Our can pop tab challenge is continuing as we head into the second semester. Please consider saving pop tabs and sending them in with your child as a part of a community service project in which our school is collecting pop tabs from cans for the remainder of the school year to donate to the Ronald McDonald House. Collecting can pop tabs supports the operating costs of providing a home away from home for families with sick children. Please begin collecting and sending in tabs from soda, food and pet food cans! Let’s work together to collect as many pop tabs as possible!
Million Minute Reading Challenge & Homework Expectations
Our reading challenge at RPE in conjunction with the PCS Million Minute Reading Challenge is ongoing. Please make sure your child is reading for at least 15 minutes each night and that you are completing your child’s paper reading log each night. We would like to recognize Peyton Gore and Octavio Delgado Campos for being our top readers with the most minutes logged during the first semester.
Freckle
Please also continue to support students in completing their adaptive practice in their online Freckle program on their Chromebooks throughout the week. Please support your child in completing a total of 45 minutes at home each week in math for grades 2-5 and in reading for grades 3-5. Help guides are linked below:
