Homecoming Weekend is Here!

September 26, 2025
Dear Avon Lake City Schools Community,
Homecoming Weekend is here! The sights and sounds of autumn football combine with the pageantry of a fun-filled weekend that truly brings together our Avon Lake community. Spirit Week featured daily activities and themes which celebrated school pride and united the entire student body. Our Homecoming football game gets underway this evening at 7 p.m., with our Homecoming Court to be introduced, and King and Queen honored before kick-off around 6:30 p.m. At 10:30 tomorrow morning, the Avon Lake Homecoming Parade will kickoff from the North Lot of the High School, and feature a variety of community groups, school floats, student participants, and more. Shoremen and Shoregals will enjoy the annual Homecoming Dance at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the High School. Come on out and support our entire school district for the football game or the parade. Hope to see you there!

House Bill 186 Prompts Need to Contact Representatives
House Bill 186 was recently introduced in the Ohio House of Representatives, and is a proposal that would place an inflationary cap on property tax revenue that 20-mill floor school districts and 2-mill floor joint vocational school districts receive following a reappraisal or update. Unlike the original version of the bill, which was prospective, the new version retroactively applies to tax years 2023 and 2024. If the proposed inflationary cap on property tax revenue goes into effect, the Avon Lake City Schools is expected to lose $2.2 million in 2025 and 2026 respectively, with an increased loss of $2.9 million expected in 2027.
According to certain officials, this bill could move quickly, possibly clearing the House as soon as next week. Please use the link below, and consider reaching out to our House members to explain the impact on our school district.
- For a summary of the statewide impact of the bill, click here.
To take action, please contact the state representatives below and share your concerns about HB 186 and its negative impact on the fiscal health of the Avon Lake City Schools and school districts across Ohio.

Bonds Go on Sale on October 1st
Bonds will be made available for citizen-purchase on Wednesday, October 1st, and the ALCS encourages our citizens to be among the very first investors in this project for years to come. Please see the graphic below for more information on the upcoming bond sales. Thank you for your consideration in this opportunity to participate.
Donate to Student-Athlete Hardship Scholarships
The Avon Lake Athletic Department has established an opportunity to assist student-athletes in need of financial assistance to offset pay-to-participate costs for deserving students through hardship scholarships. After having reached out to community groups, the need remains for interested citizens and supporters to be involved. Please consider that just in the Fall 2025 season alone more than $6,800 has been requested by parents of athletes to offset the pay to participate fees, with a majority of these parents already receiving government assistance in the form of medical, housing or food allowances. Those who are willing to help can make checks payable to Avon Lake City Schools, and write Hardship in the Memo, and get them to Dale Krzynowek, Director of Athletics, or call the Athletics Department at 440-933-6210, extension 1571, for more information.
SOUPer Bowl Contest Gaining Momentum
A visit to our various SOUPer Bowl Contest donation locations highlights the extraordinary generosity of our Avon Lake City Schools family! There’s one collection station at every building! Would you be willing to donate non-perishable food items for our local food pantry in a friendly competition against the Avon Local Schools? ALCS brought home the title last year, and in order to defend it, we need all of our Shoremen and Shoregals to step up to the plate, pitch-in, and knock this year’s effort out of the park!! Peanut butter, cereal, canned meats and fruits, and paper products can all be delivered to drop off locations at each of our school buildings and throughout the community, culminating on Friday, October 17, 2025, with our football game against Avon. See the nearby flyer for more information, and let’s work together in friendly competition for this great cause!
Looking forward to a wonderful Homecoming Weekend!
Sincerely,
Joelle M. Magyar
Superintendent of Schools
