What an exciting time at Sacred Heart of Jesus School and Parish! It has been a great week of school and the halls are filled with joy. I want to encourage you to keep discussing the virtues each day with the students and work on setting a resolution for each day. To improve in anything, it takes effort and hard work. The adults here are also working on growing in virtue!

Thanks to all who gave their input for the facilities master plan, whether in person or on the survey. Again, an exciting time to be here. I am also very excited about what Father Zarse is going to invite each family to when he speaks to you parents at Back to School Night on Thursday. We will all gather in the church for information from administration before visiting each classroom to hear from the teachers how they are going to partner with you for the school year to help you students prepare their minds for the future and their souls for eternity.

The CPS is inviting you to sign up to help with class parties and other duties. They will also have a quick meeting for those who sign up after the Sept. 12 parent session in the church meeting rooms. More information to come on that.

We are partnering with our Shawnee Smoothie King to have smoothies once a month for the middle schoolers to enjoy with their lunch. The money that we earn from this will go toward SHOJ sponsoring a student with Unbound. This will happen on the first Tuesday of the month and the orders must be placed by the Tuesday before. There are not flavor options to pick from but we will rotate different flavors. The first flavor is Caribbean Way. It is $4 for a 12 oz smoothie and they will be waiting in the MPC for your student to pick up.

I recently ran across an old book on human development from my days in graduate school. It contained Erik Erikson’s psychosocial developmental stages of how human beings grow and bloom or fail to grow and get stuck. I’m always fascinated by how God speaks to me. He needed me to remember, especially during this busy school year, the importance of MEETING PEOPLE WHERE THEY ARE. I thought it would be helpful for you to check out as well as you strive to support the healthy development of your children in all aspects; physically, spiritually, academically, socially, and emotionally. My prayer is that this chart will help us look for ways to support our kids to help them BLOOM and not get stuck.

St. Benedict Rosary Prayer Group will meet on the little playground at 3:06 each Wednesday to pray The Rosary (or at least part of it) for SHOJ school. All are welcome, even littles can come play while you pray. Please join us.

The 10th Lemon Out event is just under one month away! This year goal is to raise over $85,000 for Alex's Lemonade Stand. A portion of the proceeds of the shirts goes directly to support the cause. Natural Grocers would like to invite Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School to a Natural Grocer's kid's class called Nutrition 4 the Win on Friday, August 30th from 4:00pm to 5:00pm. It's for kids between ages 4-12 to discover how the food you eat feeds your muscles, heart, bones and brain. Teaching materials will be towards building a better plate with tasty treats and fun activities! We ask parents/caregivers to stay and play too. Anyone with kids can come to this event.
