Attendance and Activities Office Information

Attendance and Activities Office Information

Office hours are 7:20 am to 3:30 pm

Mr. Gary Mattingly is the Athletic Director gary.mattingly@usd469.net

Mrs. Missy Allen is the Attendance Secretary at missy.allen@usd469.net

If you will need your student to check out during the day, there are 4 different ways to do that.

  • Call in ahead of time and leave a voicemail at 913-727-3357 ext 1. (preferred)

  • Call in ahead of time and speak with Missy at 913-727-3357 ext 2

  • Email at least 2 hours before the check-out time to lhsattendance@usd469.net or missy.allen@usd469.net

  • OR if it is a day before or more than 2 hours before the check-out time, you may enter it into Skyward under the student's attendance tab. This method will only be checked a couple of times a day, so for immediate check-out purposes, please use a different method.

Please try to make all student check-out arrangements before 2:45 pm daily. Students will NOT be called out of class for check-out after 2:50 pm unless there is an emergency.

If your student is a driver, they will be called out of class and allowed to leave at the time you requested.

If you are picking your student up, we ask that you drive around to the west side/student parking lot side and park on the curb outside the Activities Entrance (door 7). Your student will come out to you as soon as you pull up. We do not require you to come in and sign them out.

If you are dropping off your student from an appointment, please use the same entrance. Again, you can just drop them off and send them in to the attendance office, where they will receive a pass back to class.

Students who are in a sport or activity are to be in school all day. If the student must go to an appointment on a practice or game day, they MUST have a note from that appointment or they will not be able to participate in that activity that day. If there is an emergent issue, please reach out to Mr. Mattingly.

Please reach out to Missy Allen or Gary Mattingly with any other questions you may have.

Parking Permit Check Coming Soon

**All students who park at LHS must have a parking permit. There will be a check in the next couple of weeks. If you do not have a permit that day, you will have to park in the baseball/softball parking lot. **

Parking Permit info from August:

If you plan to drive to Lansing High School, you will need to register your vehicle and purchase a window decal for $5.00. You can do that anytime in Skyward by adding the $5.00 Parking Permit to the student’s other fees. You may also bring cash or a check to the Business Office:

Monday-Friday from 8am – 3pm.

Please click on the following Google form to fill out your registration information. After payment has been confirmed, you will receive your sticker decal to go into the back window of your vehicle. Sticker decals will be handed out once school has started.

https://forms.gle/jL4Wud6ELzKnr6nR7

Seniors who have paid for a painted Senior spot will not have to pay the $5.00 parking permit, but will still need to fill out the form above and get a window decal. Any NON-PAINTED spot in the west activity lot is available for parking your vehicle. DO NOT park in a Senior Painted Spot at any time during the school day. If you drive different vehicles on different days or have two or more vehicles, you will only need to pay once; however, you will need to fill out the form above for each vehicle. You will receive a window decal for each vehicle you have.

Please read the following rules regarding Parking Privileges.

Game Days

We're excited for the community to come out and support our band, cheerleaders, and teams on game nights. We have a few reminders for home games:

  • All elementary and middle school students enter the game with an adult and sit with that adult throughout the game. Please do not drop your child off at a district event without supervision as they will not be allowed to enter.
  • Student performances are the focus of the event. No one should be on the practice football field, soccer fields, or other areas away from the stadium.
  • Please do not bring balls, frisbees, or other items to the game.
  • Students cannot enter the stadium from the tailgate area.
  • Spectators who are disruptive will be asked to leave.

Cell Phone Policy for 2025-2026

The use of cell phones and other personal electronic devices is restricted during the school day. If a student needs to contact their parent/guardian during a time they are not permitted to possess or use a personal electronic device, the student may request (without disrupting instruction) to use a school phone to call their parent/guardian. Parents/guardians can call the school if they need to reach their student in an emergency. There are phones in each classroom.

“Personal electronic device” is any non-District issued device which:

  • Electronically communicates, sends, receives, stores, reproduces, or displays voice and/or text communication, media, or data via wireless networking technology, Bluetooth, or cell service. These include:
    • Cell phones
    • Music and media players
    • Headphones
    • Earbuds

  • Use of personal electronic devices is prohibited in restrooms and locker rooms.
  • Students may access personal electronic devices during non-instructional time, including passing periods and lunch.
  • Personal electronic devices may only be used during class if permitted by a teacher for the benefit of learning.
  • Personal electronic devices that are used for medical purposes can be used during instructional time when a health plan is communicated by the school nurse or administrator.

If a student has a personal electronic device out during class time, whether they are using it to communicate or not, the following procedures will be followed:

  • 1st offense

Check Student Progress Anytime - Become a Canvas Observer

We’re excited to share how we’re using Canvas, our Learning Management System, to enhance your child’s learning experience. Here’s how Canvas helps:

  • Organized Learning: Courses are structured with clear modules, making it easy for students to follow lessons and assignments.
  • Engaging Content: Teachers use videos, interactive materials, and external resources to make learning more dynamic and accessible.
  • Assessments & Feedback: Students complete quizzes and assignments directly on Canvas, where they receive immediate feedback and grades. Teachers also provide personalized feedback to help students improve.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Canvas fosters communication through discussion boards, messaging, and group work, encouraging teamwork and peer interaction.
  • Tracking Progress: Teachers can monitor student performance and engagement, allowing for timely support when needed.

Canvas ensures that students have a flexible, supportive learning environment both inside and outside the classroom. We encourage you to explore Canvas with your child and stay engaged with their classes.

  • Observers log in through the observer portal: usd469.instructure.com/login/canvas.
  • The Canvas Parent app will not work (it uses the Discovery Page, which is the student/staff portal).
  • Observers should log in to Canvas before following links emailed from Canvas. If they aren't already logged in, they'll see an error 403 (unauthorized user) page.
