Lakeside Junior High School has earned the Model PLC at Work school designation from Solution Tree.
The designation recognizes Lakeside for its sustained success in raising student achievement, according to a Solution Tree press release. The school’s successful implementation of the Professional Learning Communities at Work process was a major contributing factor in the improved achievement of its students.
"We are very honored to be recognized as a national Model PLC at Work school," said Dr. Michael Shepherd, Lakeside Junior High School principal. "This has been a four-year process of aligning our systems and structures to be a model school."
PLCs are schools and districts in which educators recognize the key to improved learning for students is on-going, job-embedded learning for the adults who serve those students, according to the press release. The three big ideas of a PLC call upon educators to focus on learning, build a collaborative culture and create a results orientation.
"The part that I'm most proud of is that we have to show three years of academic growth and proficiency for our students in order to be a Model PLC school, " Shepherd said. "Our students are the ones who benefit from this recognition because it reflects the fact that Lakeside students are performing at academic levels that we've never seen before. They are ready to tackle the challenges and opportunities that high school provides to them."
Shepherd credits the school’s educators for their hard work and dedication to make the designation a reality.
"Lots of credit goes to our teachers who have embraced this challenge head on and were determined to make Lakeside one of the top schools in the state and nation not just for culture, but for academic success,” he said. “I am very proud that their work is now being recognized on a national level as a model for success.”
