Hilltopper Community,
April’s newsletter is hitting inboxes just after the final school bell before spring break. I’d like to wish our students and staff a wonderful and well-deserved week off of school. March was an exciting and full month at Glenbard West, and it is my hope that everyone finds a moment to step away, relax, and recharge. When we return on Tuesday, April 7th, we’ll have just seven weeks left in the 2025-26 school year.
Last week, we celebrated the 40th anniversary of the movie Lucas with its return to The Glen Art Theatre, where it had its world premiere on March 27th, 1986. Student journalists from The Glen Bard created a documentary called “Hollywood on the Hilltop” that aired before the movie. They did a phenomenal job capturing the stories of many Hilltopper alums that served as extras in the film. You can find the full documentary on The Glen Bard website, and you can find a Daily Herald article spotlighting our students’ work here. Congratulations to Cait Alligood, Josephine Dibben, Maeve Brannegan, Kathryn White, Annalise Ricci, Sam LaPalm and Jack Lafontaine—along with staff sponsors David Save and Sarah Zayas.
This month’s picture shows a few of the highlights from our Polar Plunge event that took place on Tuesday. Students and staff raised over $8000 for Special Olympics, and to celebrate, many of us jumped into a very cold pool of water. A big shout out to all of those who participated in the fundraising and took the plunge!
Construction prep began on the northwest corner of campus this week, with tree protection fencing going up and the removal of picnic tables. When we return in April, construction will already be underway. Earlier this week we shared a message with students reminding them of the proper entrances and exits from the building and reinforcing the importance of adhering to construction signage and safety procedures. Construction begins with mess and noise, but it will lead to some very exciting learning and collaboration spaces for our students upon completion in August of 2027.
Looking ahead:
On Friday, April 10th during Glenbard Hour, there is a mandatory meeting for all seniors that will review important tasks and outline our expectations for exiting Glenbard West with pride. Read on for more information related to seniors and graduation.
Wednesday, April 15th and Thursday, April 16th are testing days. On Wednesday, our juniors will take the ACT. This is an important test and a graduation requirement in the state of Illinois, and there are many resources available to our students to help them prepare. You can find the details below. Please note: Wednesday is a non-attendance day for freshmen, sophomores, and seniors. On Thursday, our freshmen and sophomores will take the PreACT. This is a non-attendance day for juniors and seniors.
April plays host to many of our end-of-the-year events and performances. Below you’ll find the dates for upcoming concerts, our art show, Prom, and the spring production of Radium Girls.
As always, thank you for reading. Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions or concerns.
Go West!

CLASS OF 2026 GRADUATION INFORMATION
Dear Seniors and Parents:
Glenbard West High School will celebrate the Class of 2026 Commencement Ceremony at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2026. Our teachers and administrators are excited to honor the achievements of this graduating class. We recognize the hard work, dedication, and perseverance our seniors have demonstrated to reach this milestone. Many have built meaningful relationships and lifelong connections within our school community, and we want to ensure they conclude their high school experience with pride and positive memories.
Our top priority is to make the end of the year meaningful and memorable for our seniors. Faculty and staff have collaborated with student leadership to plan a series of activities that celebrate accomplishments, uphold expectations, and recognize achievements. We appreciate the partnership of students and parents in maintaining a respectful and engaging environment as we approach these final weeks.
As we prepare for these culminating events, we want to remind students and families that expectations for responsible behavior and academic commitment remain in place through the last day of student attendance. Unfortunately, in past years, some seniors have engaged in campus vandalism or misconduct, which can jeopardize participation in the commencement ceremony or result in more serious consequences. We have held meetings with seniors to ensure our expectations are clear and that they feel heard regarding their concerns.
Additionally, we want to emphasize that there are no designated “Senior Ditch Days.” Unexcused absences may result in both academic and disciplinary consequences. We appreciate the support of parents in reinforcing the importance of finishing the year strong and making these final weeks a time of celebration and reflection.
Below, you’ll find a list of key dates and information leading up to commencement.
Important Change: Because of AP testing conflicts, we have moved our Senior Picnic and Tour de Glenbard to Tuesday, May 19th, immediately following commencement practice. While this is a change from previous years, we remain excited and confident that holding it alongside graduation rehearsal will still provide the same nostalgic and celebratory atmosphere for our seniors. This adjustment ensures that all students can fully participate in both AP testing and these cherished end-of-year traditions.
We look forward to celebrating the Class of 2026 alongside our students and families. Commencement is a special occasion to reflect on their accomplishments and take pride in their journey. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Sincerely,
Peter Baker
Assistant Principal for Student Services

ACT & preACT Testing
As we look ahead to spring testing, our teachers have been busy preparing students for the pre/ACT and ACT. Please encourage your students to do their very best on these important standardized tests. Not only do these scores provide students and families with key information on their strengths and areas for growth across content areas and skills, they are also used as part of our course recommendation process. Additionally, teachers refer to these data points to provide individualized and group-level academic support in the subsequent school year.

Last Push for ACT Practice
Our junior students have clocked a total of over 809 hours in the Progress Learning platform improving their ACT scores by focusing on their individual strengths and areas for growth. We are so proud of the commitment this junior class has shown to maintaining a strong focus on their coursework while devoting time to additional skill practice.
In this final push, all juniors received access to a second full-length practice ACT they can time for themselves and take at any point in the Progress Learning platform. This is a great opportunity for students to get a sense of where they might want to spend their time in these last two weeks. THANK YOU for continuing to ask your junior students about their hours and supporting them as they ready themselves for the ACT.
