T.H.E. Trail GuideMarch 2026

Welcome to March! As we move toward spring, our school is buzzing with learning, growth, and fresh energy. It’s a wonderful time to ask your child what they’re learning—and to celebrate the small wins that add up to big progress.

March is also a great month to reinforce routines at home: getting a good night’s sleep, arriving on time, and reading together whenever you can. These simple habits make a powerful difference in confidence, focus, and success at school.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Please keep an eye on the calendar for upcoming events and important dates. If you ever have questions or need assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to help.

With appreciation,
Mrs. Knight & Mrs. Green

Personal Mobile Device Expectations Personal Mobile Device Expectations

At Tehaleh Heights, we recognize that personal mobile devices, particularly smartwatches, are becoming more common among our students at parent request. To align with district policy (Student and Family Information Guide, pp. 36-38) and support a focused learning environment, we ask for your partnership in the following expectations:

  • Cell Phones: Must remain off and away in backpacks and may not be used during the school day. Any exemptions need to be approved through the administration.
  • Smartwatches: Must be in “school mode” during the school day. If your child’s smartwatch has a setting for this, we kindly ask for your assistance in enabling it. Smartwatches should only be used for telling time and may not be used for calling, texting, FaceTime, social media, or as a walkie-talkie at any point during the school day.
  • Photos & Videos: Smartwatches and cell phones may not be used to take pictures or record videos while at school or on the bus.

Classroom Disruptions: If a mobile device becomes a distraction to learning, a staff member or administrator will ask the student to place it in their backpack. If the distraction continues, the device will be referred to the office. If a device is being used inappropriately:

  • Staff will first review and reteach school expectations with the student.

  • The student will be asked to place the device in their backpack for the remainder of the day.

  • If the issue continues, the device will be brought to the office, and the teacher will contact a family member to pick it up from the school.

  • Ongoing concerns may result in the device needing to remain at home.

Communication: If you need to reach your child during the school day, please contact our main office at the@sumnersd.org or Parent Square message Kerstin Solis and/or Tracy Hartness. Any changes to dismissal transportation must be communicated directly to the office by 3:15 PM to ensure a safe and smooth end-of-day process.

Thank you for reviewing these expectations with your child. We appreciate your support in creating a positive and productive learning environment at Tehaleh Heights Elementary!

Purposefull People Trait of the Month Purposefull People Trait of the Month

This month’s focus is Cooperation. One way to think about Cooperation is “working together to reach shared goals.” As a family, talk about how this definition applies to how you work together at home. What are some goals you share?

Cooperation is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Kind. Across grade levels, students will be developing skills like perspective-taking, conflict resolution, and leadership.

Outdoor Warning Siren @ THE Outdoor Warning Siren @ THE

First test of new outdoor siren March 2

In October, we shared that Pierce County installed an outdoor warning system siren on the Tehaleh Heights campus. The first test of the new siren will happen at noon on Monday, March 2. Students will see flashing blue lights and hear a sound similar to a Westminster clock chime and an audio announcement in English and Spanish.

Pierce County runs siren testing the first Monday of each month at noon. In the event of an actual emergency, the sirens will play a continuously-steady beeping sound and strobe lights will flash, followed by a recorded audio message.

Originally created to warn of lahars from Mount Rainier, recent upgrades have made it so residents can now be alerted to other emergencies, such as floods, wildfires, earthquakes and other events. Learn more at www.piercecountywa.gov/outdoorwarning.
