College Essay Workshop in the CCC Tuesday!
Students will get tips and tricks on how to get started on their essay and walk through a brainstorming activity that will allow them to think through what they might want their essay to be about.
If seniors already have a rough draft or idea on what they want to write about, this workshop might not be the best fit for them. Students with a rough draft can stop by the CCC to make an appointment for Katie or Kelsey to review their essay and provide feedback.
This workshop will be held afterschool in the CCC (Room 150) from 3:15pm-4:00pm.
Common App Workshop during 4th Hour on Wednesday
Pizza lunch will be provided for students who attend and are working on their applications.
Katie or Kelsey will be walking through tricky parts of the Common App. For example, "Courses & Grades," "Education," and connecting Xello to your Common App to be able to send transcripts and letters of recommendation.
Students can get a pass from Kelsey or Katie in the CCC or have a passed signed in their planner to attend.
Healthcare Club with Abbott Northwestern is starting in October!
Healthcare Club is back! This club is open to all students and is a great opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about careers in healthcare. The club meets once every other month with physicians from Abbott Northwestern to participate in hands on activities like first aid, ultrasound, and more!
Our first meeting will be this Tuesday, October 22 from 3:15pm-4:00pm in Room 150. Students who have returned their permission slips will be welcome to stay and participate in a get to know you activity to kick off this year! Kelsey is aware this is the night of the Homecoming Volleyball Game. If students are unable to attend, that is understandable. Unfortunately this date was decided in August and cannot be moved now. As long as students turn in their permission slip, they are welcome to join the next meeting in December.
There are 35 spots available. If you are interested, please stop by the CCC (Room 150) to get a permission slip for this awesome chance to build your network and connect with doctors!
South High Financial Aid Night is Wednesday, October 7
Financial Aid Night is coming up on Wednesday, October 7!
The South High Counseling Team will be moving to a slightly different format this year for the October event. We are inviting seniors and their families to come to South on Wednesday, October 7 to learn about financial aid and to complete either their FAFSA of Minnesota Alternative State Financial Aid Application (MAFSA). The event will run from 6:00pm-8:00pm and will feature a half hour presentation explaining financial aid. Once the presentation is complete, families will be able to enjoy pizza and get started on either the FAFSA or MAFSA.
If seniors and their families are planning to complete financial aid during this evening they need to have the information on this flyer to complete it.
The South High Counseling Team looks forward to hosting you!
Rep Visits Continue Through The Fall in the CCC
College representative visits have started in the CCC (Room 150)! Are you interested in learning about clubs on college campuses? Do you want to know if the dorm food is good? Are you curious about a collegeβs popular majors? Then students should get a pass to attend rep visits from various colleges in the CCC.
Students can find all the scheduled Rep Visits on the CCC Calendar. Rep Visits can be added or changed throughout the fall, so we encourage students to check the calendar weekly. The rep visits are also listed under the "Events" tab in Xello. Lastly, Katie and Kelsey will also share the weekly calendar on the whiteboard outside the CCC (Room 150).
Please make sure you pick up a pass from the CCC to attend a Rep Visit! Students will not be allowed to stay for the visit without a signed pass.
