Wednesday's Words

Dear Families,
This year we are implementing a new math program in grades K-6 called Amplify Desmos. One of the largest shifts many parents will notice as you look at your child’s homework or talk to them about their math learning is that Amplify has a strong focus on math discourse- or on encouraging students to be flexible math thinkers who are able to articulate their math reasoning and explain the math behind the answer to a given problem. One of the most important ways you can help is by encouraging math dialogue at home. Click here to learn more…..

Screenagers: The Elementary Edition
Thank you to everyone who attended the film viewing and discussion on Thursday, November 6.
It was a truly memorable evening, and we hope this event raised awareness and provided you with topics for follow-up discussions and actions at home to support a healthy, balanced use of technology.
We're now challenging our whole school community to utilize the attached resources to engage in continuing education and awareness regarding these important topics. Please explore these resources as we work together to build a more informed community.
If you missed the event, watch for a second opportunity to attend the film viewing, which will be held in Plainville in the new year. To read more click here
NPS Standards-Based Report Card
Norfolk Public Schools uses a standards-based report card that shows how students are progressing toward end-of-year skills and standards. We use performance levels, 1- Emerging - 4 Extending, to communicate students progress to standards. With our new reading and math programs, some standards may appear as N/A simply because they haven’t been taught yet. Special Education Progress Reports are sent home with report cards and outline each child’s progress toward IEP goals. Families are always encouraged to reach out with questions. To read more about our Standards-Based Report Cards, click here.
On Friday, December 5, 2025 student report cards will be sent home electronically and parent-teacher conferences will be held on December 9th and 11th.
