School Success School Success

At this time of the quarter it is important to check in with your child regarding their class and homework completion. If they have missing assignments, have them make a plan of what to do to complete these. If they aren’t sure what to do, have them either email their teacher or make a plan to talk to them this week to help make their plan. If your child is struggling with larger aspects of organization, please reach out to our school counselor, Eliza Farrell (efarrell@ptschools.org) and she can support you and your child with resources. The end of the 3rd quarter is on April 8th so there is still time for every child to be successful with their school work.

Community Notice re: EJFR Training 3/31/2026 on Umatilla Street Community Notice re: EJFR Training 3/31/2026 on Umatilla Street

On Tuesday, March 31st, East Jefferson Fire and Rescue will be undertaking live fire training by completing a destructive burn. It will occur at an abandoned home on Umatilla Road, between San Juan Avenue and Silver Street, south of BHMS & OCEAN. The department will be starting multiple fires within the identified house throughout the day, concluding with a freeburn to let the fire destroy the house. The freeburn will begin between 1:00-3:00pm. The fire department will monitor the burn until the house is destroyed.

BHMS & OCEAN campus will have caution tape along the fence line of our football and soccer fields to caution students from exiting in that direction. During the afternoon, smoke may linger over the school area, depending on the weather. If your student walks or rides a bike to school, please encourage them to avoid the house in that area of Umatilla after school that day. If you have questions about this training exercise, you may contact Robert at the East Jefferson Fire & Rescue at 360-302-1799.

This year, work will be displayed in the Cotton Building downtown so that everyone can see our kids' great art. Let's show students that Port Townsend values their creativity and wants to see their ideas reflected in our community! A big thank you to Port Townsend's Arts Commission (PTAC) and the Port Townsend PTA for sponsoring this event, and thank you to all of the wonderful teachers for helping our kids develop their creativity and skills, and for organizing and working hard to make this event happen!

Opening Night is Thursday 4/2/26 from 5-7pm, featuring OCEAN's "Trashion" Show at 5:15pm.

Saturday 4/4/26 we will participate in the First Saturday Art Walk from 5-8pm. Come downtown to enjoy food from the high school's Culinary Arts food truck (for purchase) and live music!

To sponsor this event/donate, please use the QR code above or visit: https://ptpta.givebacks.com/shop. Contributions will help support this week-long exhibition of artwork by students from PT schools and ongoing art programs in our school district.

To volunteer, please email Chiarra Klontz at klontz.chiarra@gmail.com to be added to our list. We will be preparing art before April 1st, installing the show in the Cotton Building on April 1st, and then hosting open hours each day/evening from April 2nd - 7th. Please let us know if there is a specific date/time or activity you would like to help with. Thank you so much!

After school tutoring After school tutoring

Did you know that after school tutoring is happening at Blue Heron? It takes place in the BHMS library on Tuesday and Thursdays from 3:30-4:30pm. There are only 6 open spots for students each day, so students can sign up with Donna to work with Mr. Jimmy on their school work. Only students who have signed up will be able to join the session.

Multicultural Night: Tuesday, April 28th, 2026 Multicultural Night: Tuesday, April 28th, 2026

BHMS is hosting Multicultural Night, Tuesday 4/28/2026, from 5:00-6:30pm. We will be celebrating the many cultures that make up our school community, and we would love for parents and guardians to join us by sharing a part of their family’s culture regarding celebrations with our students.

This could include:

  • A favorite family tradition about a holiday or a cultural celebration

  • Clothing or artifacts

  • Music or dance

  • Stories, folktales, or history

  • Food or recipes

  • Language or greetings

  • Artwork or crafts

Whether your family’s roots are local, tribal, national, or international, your culture matters and your story is an important part of our school community.

If you would be interested in visiting, sending in items to share, or helping us highlight your family’s heritage in another way, please reach out to Johanna Semerikov jsemerikov@ptschools.org or call 360-379-4540 to sign up to participate. We would be honored to learn from you and celebrate the traditions and cultures that make our community so special.
