8. Support Staff Evaluation (Evaluator) Due June 5, 2020
At this point, many of our support staff should have completed their self reflection for their evaluation. We have received the following information since Gov. McMaster issued school closures for the remainder of the school year. Please see below:
Can I start holding support staff evaluation meetings?
At this time, we have a significant number of support staff employees who are working in a school location to some extent. In addition, when announcing that schools would remain closed for the remainder of the year, the Governor and Superintendent Spearman noted that activities needed to bring the school year to an end could occur in person provided the appropriate precautions were taken. Therefore, in light of our preference to conduct evaluations in person where we can do so safely, please plan to conduct in-person evaluations for the following support staff employees:
- Any support staff employees who are scheduled to work on a school campus - whether on a reduced schedule or on an as-needed basis -between now and June 5th; and
- Any support staff employees who have two or more “needs improvement” ratings on his/her evaluation.
What if an employee can’t come in for their evaluation? (If this applies to you, please inform an administrator as soon as possible.). There are guidlines we need to follow for documenting our meeting.
For those support staff employees who will not be in our buildings before June 5, 2020 (including those on FMLA) or whose health circumstances make it inadvisable for them to meet in person even with precautions, schools may conduct the evaluations virtually/electronically via Zoom, Google Hangouts, or even Facetime.
To recap:
In regards to all Support Staff Evaluations, Remember:
Evaluate them in person if the employee is scheduled to be on campus (and if their health makes it advisable to do so)
Evaluate in person if the employee has two needs improvement ratings (and if their health makes it advisable to do so) after contacting HR to discuss improvement plan documentation
Follow the process support staff virtual/electronic evaluations for all other support staff employees- call if you have questions
If you wish, probationary evaluations can be conducted for employees where you feel there is enough information to evaluate short of the 90 workdays OR You can pause the probationary period from March closure to August return if let HR know who those employees are and have appropriate documentation of the circumstances.
