Get ready for our Fall Festival Fundraiser on Thursday, October 15th! The festival is going to be amazing this year!

We're switching to a ticket system for the booths this year. Tickets will be 25¢ each with a minimum purchase of $1.00. We recommended spending around $5.00 per child to get the full experience. We will be accepting cash and Venmo. Be sure to bring a bag to collect all your prizes!

We could still use a few more volunteers to help our event run smoothly. If you can help out, please email Tiffany - our PTO email is: ifhawthornepto@gmail.com

We will have food available to purchase in the cafeteria. Here are the food prices:

Slice of pizza $2.50

Glazed donut $1.00

Cup of apple cider 50¢

Bag of popcorn 50¢

Water bottle 25¢

Let's talk about BULLYING (& then Problem-Solving)

We have had a great start to our year! To keep that going to and to make it even better, let's talk about what to do when your student comes home and says, "This kid is bullying me?" Here are some key questions to guide them through:

REPORT IT! REPORT IT!

At school we use this form Hawthorne Problem Reporting & Solving Form

(click the link to download a PDF). Or all you need to report is the basic information:

-Your name and your students' name

-Date & Time

-Where it happened (and yes we will address on the bus, bus stop and walking to and from school)

-What happened

-I also always ask, "How can I help you?" or "How can I fix it?" Because sometimes students have great ideas.

Then Report it to me at morgmark@sd91.org or to our counselor, Andrea Hamilton at hamiandre@sd91.org or you can message us through parent square. Or write it on a piece of paper, fold it in a square and have your student bring it to the office.

And/Or - try a problem-solving strategy

If it sounds like your student just needs help working through a problem with a friend at recess (or at home). We use the “Kelso’s Choice” curriculum to help our students learn problem solving skills. It’s a great resource! (see the picture below.)

Hawthorne House Meeting

We will have our next House Meeting on Friday, October 8 from 1:00-1:45, please do what you can to make sure all of our HAWKS are here to meet with their HOUSE! We are better together! One of our catchphrases is: "The HOUSE we build together is the HOME we live in at HAWTHORNE!"

The First QUEST!!! The First QUEST!!!

Our first QUEST is going to be for students to learn the names of AT LEAST 20 other students who are in THEIR HOUSE. HAWK FAMILIES - be asking your student - what house are you in?

Drop off and Pick up at Hawthorne

Hawthorne Families -

The best, safest place to drop off students is in the Parent Drop Off Zone, just drive up the alley from Calkins and then exit by turning south onto Boulevard. We have a duty at the drop off and students can walk onto the blacktop to line up or across the blacktop to the cafeteria for breakfast. 1st and 2nd grade students walk across the blacktop and up the hill to line up at the top of the hill. The time before school IS NOT A RECESS. It's a time to head to your line area and "chat and chill" with friends, then we can all start the day in a calm, organized way.

PLEASE BE SURE YOU DO NOT DROP OFF in the BUS LANE -

we have 3 busses coming this year!

PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED MAP for more directions.
